If you have the CD inserted and still receive this error, make sure you have the right drive letters/directories for the game and your CD drive in your Dune2000\RESOURCE.CFG file.

I'm actually not all that disappointed with the demo. It's true that the contextual interface is a change from classic C&C, but it is useful, and I like being able to purchase upgrades/use special abilities. But I also like being able to macromanage my construction with a sidebar. Neither formula is perfect by itself, but I think EA stumbled on a really good compromise. The way they handled multiple construction facilities is exactly as I'd always thought would be best. And the graphics, when cranked all the way up, are some of the best I've ever seen in an RTS game, especially the heat/smoke effects. And the Tiberium handling returns to the way it was handled in the original Command & Conquer - as an alien crystalline form of flora. It was way to plant-like in Tiberian Sun. And a lot of the things are going back to Tiberian Dawn's way of doing things, I know, but let's face it - C&C was generally better-received than Tiberian Sun. And mechs are an impractical idea for real use, really, so who can fault them for going back to the old Mammoth Tank? Plus it was just so cool. That aside, it's not Supreme Commander, Call of Heroes, or Dawn of War. But it is C&C, for better or for worse.

Corrino's Revenge 2 by TOMORROW!!! Or not. But if anyone who was in the beta however-many-years-ago still has the files or knows where I can get them, I'd be quite thankful.

I occasionally crawl my way up from the dungeon, much to everyone's dismay. I actually re-installed Emperor yesterday on my new rig, to discover it has no widescreen support and that all of that work on CR2 (bonus cookies for you if you have any idea what that is) is long, long gone. But I might come back, so to speak, because it was/is cozy here.

iTunes can do this as well, just set the "Ripping" format to the desired quality of MP3 and import all of your .wma's. They'll automatically be converted to MP3 and stored in a conveniently organized directory structure.

Yes, for nVidia's SLI motherboards, the connector comes with the MB. All you need is two *identical* cards (eg, two eVGA 128MB GeForce 6600GTs) and that connector. The ATi equivalent, Crossfire, requires at least one Crossfire Master card, though the other can merely a be a "Crossfire Ready" card of the same type. There is no physical connector required. The key is that both GPUs must be the same (same clock speeds, same memory amount and bus type, and same architecture).

I have a Motorola v60i and I use Tracfone. Not particularly a fancy phone or a fancy service, but the phone was only $70 and the service only costs me about $90 a year.

what hardware are you going to buy in 2006...?
DukeLeto replied to veK's topic in Technical Issues, News, & Reviews
Well, I was mistaken in saying I'm not in the market for a new laptop, someone made a good offer for my AVERATEC, and since it fits their needs way better than mine, they're getting it. So I have about $800-$900 to sink into a new laptop. looking at 12"-14" with decent (at least x200M level) graphics, preferably 1GB of RAM, and a fairly powerful CPU. It will be used for Java programming, standard office-style work, and some light gaming (eg UT2004, Generals, maybe CS:Source). I can get a Compaq v2000z for about $850 (thanks to APP discount) with 60GB 5400RPM HD, AMD Turion ML-37 (2.0GHz) 64-bit processor, 1GB of DDR400 RAM, 128MB (32MB dedicated/96MB shared) ATi x200M, wireless a/b/g and bluetooth, 14.0" Brightview WXGA, and 12-cell battery. Not a bad computer, though if anyone has any suggestions, I'm open. -
Any word on fixing the Opera stylesheet? 'Cause this looks really...bad.

http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/ Oh...my...god...more graphics and CPU power than my Inspiron 9300 in a <6 pound aluminum chassis. *salivates* But I'm not in the market for a new laptop just yet, so I might get a Go7800(GTX if I can afford it) for my 8 pound, plastic (:(), single-core CPU Inspiron 9300. -
Hmm, the latest front page news story has some weird boxes in it in opera, which are question marks in Firefox, and...apostrophes in IE. FED2k using IE-specific character encoding? For shame!

I don't actually have any pictures of me, but this one has me in it: I'm the one with the shiny golden cord (second from right)...Low brass Co-section leader. w00t. Edit: I stand corrected, there is a picture of (almost) me on the intarweb: [img height=512 width=768]http://delandband.com/Phil.jpg I'm licking my lips and therfore look retarded. Oh well.

Yes Andrew, Linux has a full formatting/partitioning utitlity in the installer. A good distro for a first-time user is either Ubuntu or SUSE, both of which should be faster than Win98, and certainly much, much, much more stable. Ugh, '98. And it should be perfect for her needs as you've stated.

KDE/GNOME. That pretty much debunks most of your complaints: unfriendly, uses a CLI, etc. Both of those desktops are both relatvely user-friendly and far more powerful than Windows Explorer. Also, Linux is overall just plain <i>faster</i> than Windows. Case in point: under Windows, the program SuperPI took 2:16 to calculate PI to 2M digits on my 3270; from the Linux CLI, 1:47. The Windows system cahce is <i>well</i> over 650 MB; on kubuntu Linux, even with KDE and several processes I don;t need (Bluetooth, OpenGL extensions, et al.) running, the cache is just under 380 MB. And on my 3270, that's the difference between always running in the swap file and never accessing it. And on a 5400RPM 2.5" HD, that's an important distinction. I do a lot of Java (hey, a Unix-based programming language...and Linux is a Unix-based operating system...hmmm) programming, and under Linux + KDE, I can compile programs almost instantaneaously on my Mobile Sempron 2800+ running at 800MHz on battery...a task that slayed a far more powerful Pentium M 740 (which is generally about 30-40% more efficient clock-per-clock) running at the same 800MHz power-saving mode on Windows XP Pro. And I've seen Doom3, FarCry, Splinter Cell, StarCraft, WCIII, Generals, and UT2004 all run easily on Linux machines. There's easily as many games for Linux as for the Mac. Although you don't run Linux for gaming any more than you buy a Mac for it. And do you want to know how many fatal system crashes I've experienced since I got kubuntu up? Hmmm...zero. I get about 2-3 a month on my I9300...and that's great by XP Home standards. Number of Viruses I've gotten on my 3270 since installing Linux? None. Windows PCs? I get a couple a month (fortunately caught by AVG). Spyware? None on Linux, but Ad-Aware detects several pieces on each weekly scan on my other machines. I don't pretend that Linux is right for everyone in every situation, but on a mchine where you need power for programming and office tasks, you don't game, and you need security...well, Windows just can't compare.

I have kubuntu 5.10 on my AVERATEC 3270. Let me tell you, that machine was the suckiest choice on earth to start my Linux experience on - the sound controller, MIDI synth, Wireless, Graphics card, and touchpad are all unsupported. I have KDE coming up through a hack on the GPU, but I still can't run full-screen OpenGL apps, I have the WAV sound working, but not the MIDI synth, and I installed some hacked drivers for the wireless that let me manually type in the IP/Gateway/SSID/WEP key of the network I need to connect to. The touchpad's special features don't work, but it functions as a standard two-button mouse. And there's an error that holds up the boot for about 30 seconds when trying to connect to the wireless network while out of range, and another one that holds up KDE's startup for about 20 seconds due to the graphics card. But I wouldn't go back to Microshit Windows for anything. I want to set up a dual-boot on my I9300 next, which should be easier as Intel has wirelss drivers, and the GPU is an nVidia GF Go6800 instead of some VIA integrated POS.

I love Terran myself. Siege Tanks + Stim-packed M&M + Sci Vessels & BattleCruisers = unstoppable lategame push. Early in the game, M&M (Marine and Medic, usually involving Stimpacks) rush can be very effective, and bunkers are bar none the most versatile defenses in the game. Plus they're immediately the coolest side because they're the only one with nukes.

Could God prove the existence of God?
DukeLeto replied to Edric O's topic in Politics, Religion, & Philosophy
If God cannot prove his own existence, then he is not omnipotent, since there is something he cannot do. -
I play tuba, this makes my 6th year as a tuba player and I am currently low brass co-section leader at Deland High School. Prior to that I spent two years on mallet percussion (eg, marimba, xylophone, etc.) and drum kit. I also play trombone, but only on about a freshman level, and by extension could play baritone fairly well, although I don't very often. Oh yeah, and I own an acoustic guitar, but have no idea how to play it. :P

How to transfer word and poweroint files to an iPOD
DukeLeto replied to Procyon's topic in Technical Issues, News, & Reviews
You could always install Linux on your iPod (http://ipodlinux.org/forums/) and then install OpenOffice (http://www.openoffice.org/) on top of that, which can read/edit/view PowerPoint files. That's probably a tad extreme though. I'd go with what Ackriku said first. -
If I may give my (potentially flame-inducing) 2 cents: I can pay ~$400 for a Sony PSP and be able to watch movies and listen to music - as long as I buy them on the special, minitaure, doesn't-work-with-anything-else-I-own discs I need - and play a few proprietary games with awkward controls at really low resolutions, all on a tiny screen and crappy little single speaker. Or I can pay ~$1000 for a Dell Inspiron 700m or AVERATEC 1000 and watch movies and listen to music on the hundreds of DVDs and CDs I already own (in addition to being able to burn my own DVDs and CDs, should I so desire), play just about ANY GAME I WANT at decent resolutions with an intuitive, complete control set, and be able to see it all on a nice, viewably large high-res widescreen with rich, stereo sound. Plus I can do actual productivity tasks, surf the net, do photo editing, do my programming work, and even hook it up to external components to use at home, eliminating the need to buy more stuff. I've never understood video game consoles and I never will. Why waste your money on such a highly-specialized (and completely frivoslous) product when you can pay a little more for something that can do everything a console can and so much more?

Same problem with MSIE 6, Deer Park Alpha 2, and FF 1.06 on Windows, and with Konqueror and FF 1.06 on Linux. Obviously it's a problem with the site. Although [hide]hidden text[/hide] works fine in DPA2.

I'm not sure why you keep insisting on comparing the 6600GT to the 6800 Ultra when there is a 6800GT. Also, you seem to have forgotton that you're running dual 6600GTs, and therefore, by your "twice-as-much-means-twice-the-performance" reasoning(however heinously flawed it may be), you should be getting the power of a 6800 Ultra. And since we were originally trying to figure out why your dual-6600GT setup could barely handle BF2 on medium while my single-Go6800 *NOT ULTRA!!!* setup can blow it away at maximum settings + max AF and AA: The Go6800 has a slower fill rate than the 6600GT and has only 12 pixel pipelines, not 16. Multiple benchmarks show dual 6600GTs beating out Go6800s by large margins. So I can only conclude that you seriously need to optomize your system.

Yes, I know. Uber-geek. (The picture, if you didn't know, is of Ethan and Lucas from Ctrl+Alt+Del.) And don't mind the weird resolution, I have a 16:10 widescreen (Dell Inspiron 9300).
