Personally, I don't think we need a separate board for politics/religion. There aren't enough new daily threads in General to constitute it. If we made a separate board, General will most likely "dry up" like Duniverse has.

Nema's already a global mod...he doesn't need to be mod specifically for the new board...

Edric and Emprworm? No topic would last ten seconds before being sent to the dungeon...

Emprworm: Lets talk about economic systems.

Edric: Capitalist pig-dog!! *locks topic*

Edric: Let's talk government.

Emprworm: Communist terrorist-supporter!! *locks topic*

lol. ;D

Good idea Ex. It would be nice to have a separate board for that.

About the moderatores, hmmmm. I would vote for giving a chance to emprworm and edrico, they post on a regulary basis, and also important is that, given those controversial subjects, having balance at the moderators level is very important, they represent two opposite views, and in politics that is not only needed but healthy too. They should be given the chance, if they moderate in a good way, we'll thank them, else if they don't do that then the moderator status can be removed.

Support new people and give them a chance.

It's interesting how my use of this website has changed lately. I used to come to fed2k and visit first the EBFD board, then General board, if I had some time then Tech board. Since a few months ago, first General board, then EBFD board, later if I had some time Tech forum. Now I visit General board, and only sometimes EBFD board..... what's happening :O

I would probably never visit those forums :P

Btw. as for the moderators, i vote for none yet, let the global moderators take care of it untill it gets too much for them.

Emprworm and Edric as the mods? Opposite ends of the political spectrum, it would bring balance. of course to work with each other they would probably have to un-ignore the other.

As for as nuetral as possible...Nema is probaly the most level headed person on the forum, him or Timenn. Since they are both Global Mods they could check in every once in a while if Edric or Empr wanted them to.

I don't think there is really anyone who is unbiased when it comes to those two topics.

*cough, cough... what about that stoner with his witty humor to lighten the mood... cough, cough*

I was voted most humors at the Fed Awards ya know ;) And didn't you say "You'd have to be crazy or on drugs to wanna work here..." I qualify on both counts ;D

I know of this fellow, some call him Acriku, and everyone who meets him is captured in his charm and responsibility. Some speak of him searching for a place to use his charm and responsibility, and as a sponsor of this man I say the Political and Religion Board is just the place!

Hasn't anyone thought about the religion aspect of the new forum? Me and Emprworm are complete opposites on the political spectrum, but we're both Christians. Not good for balance...

I don't think any new mods are needed. The global mods would do just fine.

Well, I voted for one new board for both topics...

As these are such popular topics, that they really should get their own boards, making the 'General' thread a bit clearer for those who don't want to be involved in politics or religion threads having to sift through them.

Since they are such sensitive topics, I would suggest several moderators, to aviod bias in any one direction.

Why should only the global mods moderate? Why can't we give people who have been here a long while a chance to show how responsible and *charming* they are?

I'm at this point in my life as I don't give a da** about anything .. ;D

[ hope you know it's just a joke :- ]

Would vote for no changes myself, just be a lit more accurate with the current topics in General. .. keep them focused and try to make one about a subject, don't debate different viewpoint in different topics for that matter.

Then, if most of you would like to talk about it and think the extra board isn't a waste. My vote would go to one new for both religion and politics.

Could a vote 1/5 on both those options ? ;)

That's yet another reason to get Nema, he can balance it.

Or me... I have opinions but so has everyone else. And I hate flame wars. Nobody going to vote for me to moderate? ;)

(Nema still gets my vote, even if he is a moderator automatically)

Hehe. It isn't as hard as it sounds to moderate religion boards. (Or at least on another forum where I post and moderate I don't have much trouble doing it. Of course they're not the type of strong willed, arguementitive people we have here.) The Global Mods probably could do it by sparing a glance or two each day. And Edric does have a point...both he and Emprworm are Christian and that would imbalance the religion aspect, another reason why our mixed religious leaning Global Mods could do the job.

"I don't think anyone is irresponsible enough to have their views reflect on their moderating. "

Um.

Seriously, though, if there must be a new board, making Edric and Empr mods just would not work. Aside from the fact that at present neither could see the other's comments, there's the danger of there being more wars over how to moderate things than politics or religion.

And making one a mod and the other not would also not be the best of moves.

Besides, the only problem with the way things are now is the disparate nature of topics across threads. Every other topic seems to overlap quite a bit with at least one other: France threads, so many Iraq threads which end up all the same after a page or so. Perhaps that merge function needs some more use...

Moreover, it's easier to understand what's going on, and easier to moderate if there are fewer threads.

And as for the people suggesting me as moderator, I can't do all of the work, even with Timenn, Gob, and Mahdi to help. Remember, moderating is not just locking the topics which have rotted.

Nema, with my daily visits here, moderating would be no problem. Not that it would be easy, just easier if I did visit everyday. But whatever you and/or God and/or Mahdi and/or anybody decide, I hope it's the best decision.

Also, I think I have shown great restrain in not letting my emotions fall into my posts in the religion topics, so perhaps that shows something.
