A Sniper is Terrorizing the US

This guy is one shot - one kill. Waiting for him to run out of ammo is HIGHLY impractical.

They definately need to catch this madman as soon as possible. I think they should try some sort of bait. Accompanied by a media campaign saying something like "This man is 100% safe, the sniper it too stupid to get him!"

That sort of taunting will eventually get the sniper to try to prove himself by shooting that specific person. And getting caught in the process.

He is so far away from the shootings, how can they stop him from shooting this target? Even if they did that (assuming he watches tv even), who would be dumb enough to be the target?

And it isn't always one shot-one kill, he only injured one guy.

And what if he fires all his bullets, and then dissapears? Leaves the country? Dissapears? Haven't we seen this kind of thing before? Okay, maybe not snipers or murderers, but defenitly bank robbers. They rob a bank, in some smart way, then, they dissapear. No trace, no proof, no nothing. Or, what if this is another terrorist? Maybe his purpose is: "the more you plan on invading Iraq, the more victims there will be"? Maybe, just maybe, the Iraq war to come, the terrorist actions around the world, and the sniper somehow, just somehow, has a connection. But no, I won't say anything more. You probably think I'm some paranoid idiot... roght? Huh?

I agree. Why is it worse to kill a child than an adult...who could be someone's mother or father. Why do people freak out way more when it is a child??? It is sad whoever it is.

I think it is percieved as being more despicable when a child is murdered since most adults have children of their own and can't comprehend the same thing happening to their children. There aren't any laws that make it worse to kill a child that I know of, so technically it is not worse to kill a child. As you say, it is sad whoever is killed. I have kids and it repulses me whenever a child is harmed.

I live in the area (Maryland) where this sniper is attacking and I pay a lot more attention to my surroundings when I am out than I normally would. I hope they catch this maniac soon.

Why? Because a child has only lived for so short period. Imagine yourself in your 10 or 15eens, maybe you are in that age now (?), and being shot. An adult on the other side, is about 30-50 years already. But when you've only lived for 10 years, and know that you are going to die, is not a confortable tought.

I think the major concept that makes killing a kid worse than killing an adult is cowardess. The child is un-equipped to defend himself/herself. It also makes it easier for the murderer. This is why most rapists and other sexual predators victimize children. They wan't the easiest victim possible. What this sniper is doing is absolute cowardess. It doesn't matter how old the victim is, nobody stands a chance against a guy with a sniper rifle 500m away.

How do children have a disadvantage of defending themselves against a silent hunter hundreds of meters away? They would have the advantage I would assume, being agile and small - when rather an adult would be sluggish and huge. But sexual assaults are close-quartered, so their physical disadvantage comes into play. Not when targeted by a sniper rifle though.

If the sniper had any consideration to the victim he wouldnt or couldnt shoot.

Any weapons expert will tell you that a steady eye, hand, and target are the necessary pre-requisites for a successful kill with a sniper rifle. Place a person in that view-finder makes the whole situation more unbearable to understand.

A serial killer traditionally loses control over their victim by fulfilling their needs close at hand, unlike these killers who are completely alien to their victims, in total control, and quite literally playing god with people's lives.

A sniper would be trained enough and have the right set of mind to not view the victims as people, but as targets or objectives. In the military it is a must that you do not view the enemy as a person.
