So, what's so difficult about issuing an apology? I'm aware that it's too late now, but if it was done much earlier, a great amount of this unrest could've been prevented. Of course, it's not about cartoons - not anymore, but everything huge starts out from something very simple. The cartoons represent this growing disrespect and hatred of everything islamic in the West - considering some of the posts I've read in this thread, I don't feel I even need to justify that claim. The only reason that blowing up the Middle East is even discussed is because we know they don't have the power to strike back in any significant manner. It's ultimately all about power.

They are tired of feeling powerless and having their governments bend over and take it from the Western nations. For some reason, they think that blowing up embassies will make a difference, or at least, it makes them feel better.

Yes, we should. It was tasteless and in bad form for those newspapers to print those pictures, completely brushing aside any thoughts of not offending Muslims. It's akin to drenching yourself in blood and Satanic symbols and going into a church in some hillbilly town and screaming, "Hey, motherfuckers! God sucks! So does Jesus! You know how he got born?! Joseph and Mary had anal sex, so Mary stayed a virgin, but because she was a fucking mutant, her egg still got fertilised! Hahahahahahaha! FUCK GOD! SATAN SHALL RULES THE WORLD! 666!"

Maybe not that serious or offensive, but I will state it again, Muslims take religion much more seriously than those in the Western world.

No, but you don't see us whining all the time when they do. And when we make a couple cartoons we get blamed for being inconsiderate and comitting hate crimes. But it's perfectly ok for them to make fun of us.

If you're so convinced that Muslims are extremists and radicals and mentally ill, why don't you just think to yourself the next time you see the Muslim media insulting the West, "Hah! Stupid ragheads! Allah this Allah that blahblahblah....". I mean, if you just knooooow you're so much better than them, and they're crazy psychopaths who totally overreact to every situation that is slightly offensive for them, why don't you just ignore them, hmm? Since you're better than them, best not to get involved with their stupid raghead discussions, right?  ::)

So why not avoid causing insult in the first place ? Am I the only person here who realised how bad this would insult them when the whole thing blew up ?

It blew up because a Muslim brought the cartoons (along with some fake cartoons to incite more rage) from Denmark to the middle east.

The cartoonist can be blamed for creating them, but it's not like he shipped them to highly populated Muslim countries and forced them to view them.

And a Muslim newspaper in Egypt published the cartoons in December, so they can be blamed for "spreading the hate" as well.

And had he not made them ? So what if the guy took them there, someone was going to do so sooner or later. He took it back no doubt in anger, to show others what these cartoon makers were doing.

I dont see that as being anything other then expected by someone who was insulted.

why make something so obviously offensive ? Forget the fact that you cant understand that they take religeon more seriously then you do. Why did the cartoon makers seemingly deliberately set out to offend ?

Why did the cartoon makers seemingly deliberately set out to offend ?

To poke fun at a religion, much like other cartoonist does, along with political parties and social things.

Oh no it makes it look like all priests are child molesters! We need to ban cartoons stat! Any cartoons or displays of sex before marriage (even in television) should be outlawed as well, as it offends Christians who do not believe in sex before marriage. Doing so is attacking their beliefs.

EDIT:

Man who denies the holocaust, goes to jail for 3 years I guess Europe doesn't have any free speech. Next thing you know people who don't believe in evolution will be sent to jail.

On a funnier note. I wish this Iranian woman was living in Austria so she could go to jail for spouting what she thinks.

Oh really? So there are no extremist Muslims anywhere? None at all? They are all peace loving people? The lifeguard that was beaten on a beach by Muslims was asking for it (what happened over Christmas)?

Yahoo! is banning the use of allah in email names

This was uncovered by Reg reader Ed Callahan whose mother Linda Callahan was trying to sign up for a Verizon email address. She could not get it to accept her surname.

Yahoo doesn't accept bin laden references eithor, but its perfectly ok to use: god, messiah, jesus, jehova, buddah, satan and both priest and pedophile.

Censorship is just stupid. Ban one thing, but not the other.
