  1. reading this topic... ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D
  2. Hey Guys, Happy New year to you all! That the best of 2007 may the worst for 2008!
  3. Hmz.. The ShellIconCache file might be corrupted.. What you might try is to reboot your system into Safe mode (Press F8 during boot, and select safe mode). And then see if the problem corrects in the explorer view.. Ifso reboot your system back to normal mode. This might solve your issue.. If not, let us know ;) Cheers.
  4. nope... you dont.. its only used between two or more windows machines in the same LAN. Torrents have nothing to do with this..
  5. Depends.. TCP/IP is needed for sure. no question about that. File and printer sharing is only needed when you share your files or printers in your home network with other computers you got there.. Client for microsoft network is needed to reach a different windows computer in your network. but this one normally wouldn't cause weird things.. QOS packet scheduler isn't needed either.. because there is no quality of service to maintain.. I have them all installed... But you might try to disable them..
  6. you might considder reinstalling if you really get annoyed of it.. but you can try to reset your LAN-connection when it happens.. if you want that to do it way..
  7. I would try to reinstall the computer... it might help.. Because those torrent programs, even limewire and other p2p comes with spyware or other crap you actually don't want to have on your system.. But try disable-ing and re-enable-ing your NIC.. it might help... but it actually should't be the solution to this problem... I think if this is the "cure", some software is spamming traffic over your NIC without you knowing it.. and upon disableing, windows drops everything in the queue. When you enable the interface again, everything starts over and there is a point in time after that where your card gets again a sort of buffer overflow.. For my interest see the taskmanager when this happens.. maybe there is a spike in your CPU usage.. and then you can find out which process is causing the problem.. because it would likely be the one which causes like over 80% CPU usage for a period of time...
  8. could be.. that the router constantly needs to resend packages because the line is bad... but i think, that when they have sent one to fix it, it will be fixed.. Have you scanned your computer on ad-ware??
  9. Van Velzen - Shine a little light :) Very good song of a very good band from The Hague - The Netherlands.. check it out ...
  10. when you turn off the torrents when you have the problem its already to late.. then your router will time out (i presume you have a simple, by your broadband-company provided router) Those are known to start malfuntioning when excessive traffic is generated for a constant period of time... just a reset will probably solve it.. try to adjust your torrent download as andrew said to at most 80% of your bandwidth...
  11. Are you behind any firewall? Have you tried scanning your computer for ad-ware? other accounts on your computer have the same issue? re
  12. have you got the same issue with internet explorer??
  13. Correct Gryphon.. but normally that would be auto-negotiated if its value = 000000 And thats the default so keep it that way ;)
  14. I have this same problem with my Toshiba laptop.. One of my USB ports is F*^%8 up.. The plastic of the USB port in the computer broke and came out with the USB device... the port is still usable, but instable.. so when you move the cable a little some false contacts might screw your connection...
  15. first of all: can you see (ping) the other computer when you are in windows? (your pc's need to have both an IP adres like 192.168.1.1 for computer A and 192.168.1.2 for computer B. both a subnetmask of 255.255.255.0) If you can ping each other from a command prompt (type ping 192.168.1.2 in the commandprompt of computer A and see for a reply from computer B) If this works, you could try to start an TCP/IP game. But if you want to use IPX/SPX you need probably to do the following on both systems: Right click on your LAN connection in the network properties screen. and click properties in the right-click-menu. then see if you find NWLink IPX/SPX/netBIOS-compatible transport protocol is present. If not click Add, then click protocol, then you would have the possibility to choose NWLink or something like it with IPX/SPX. Add that protocol on both machines and try again. Keep the default settings for that protocol.. I hope this is clear enough and the solution to your issue..
