My first encounter with Dune was when my brother browsed through the games directory in DOS on our old 286 computer.

An accident, really.

I pointed at Dune II, and asked him what it was, because I had never seen him play that, nor did I know it was there.

I was very young, and thougt of feathers when reading the title Dune, because the word "dun" or "fj

I got Dune 2000 free with Dungeon Keeper II. :)

From there it was a few simple steps from Dune 2000 to Emperor to Books to Duniverse! to FED2K! ;D

Sci-Fi channel was running with the movie about 12 years ago. I never looked at it the first couple of weeks, but as it is sci-fi it got repeated about 4 times a week, so after a while I saw it and like the story. Then I finally knew what all those books called Duin in the local bookstore where. I bought the whole series. [ 1 to 6 at that time ] And started reading them. After that it was to late. Bought the English version a few months later and the video game also somewhere those days.

I bought Dune 2 for my good ole Commodore Amiga A1200. I loved it so much I went and read all the books I could lay my hands on. Then I later got Dune 1 which I loved just as much and it went from there. :)

1993 or 1994, not sure. I went to my neighbour, a boy 4 years older then me, he had a 386 and played dune2. I was stunned. I thought this game was amazing. So about 1 or 2 weeks later he came to us and installed the game on our pc. From that day on, i played the game non stop. However, though it's name was dune, i was young and could hardly read english so all the story just went past me. I did not know what the dune universe was. Not untill 1996 or 1997 when i saw that a friend of mine had a book at home that was called 'Duin' (dutch for dune) so i read the back of the book and found out that the book was about the same universe as the game i played for so long.

I unknownly played Dune 2 with a friend about 5 years ago. I then saw emperors ad on C&C RA2.(but never got it) then saw Miniseries in summer and 6 months later read all books.

I first encountered Dune in a chatroom. A few guys were talking about one of the Dune computer games, and I asked about it. They didn't really have much to tell me, but I kept an eye open.

A little while later, I saw an ad on SciFi for the first miniseries. I watched it, and was enthralled. I read the first book. I bought Dune 2000. In around that order.

My dad had all the Dune Books, he bought them as they were released, said I'd be interested. Got bored about six years back or so and read through the Series in a summer. Then saw the Lynch film.

Dune II in 1994. In that time it was the best I saw (not saying I've seen something better - in 1998 I've attacked one reporter of Score game magazine, which was making negative reviews on older games and dared to insult Dune II). Worse I had only a 286, so I couldn't play it at home. I've read the book in 1997.

Only late last year.I think early-mid november when I started playing Emperor:Battle For Dune. :D I did watch parts of the Dune movie which was aired in the 90s but wasn't interested.

My first intoduction to Dune was the David Lynch Movie, that I saw with 8/9 years, back in the 80's, and the film marked me, specially the giant worms.

Then came the game Dune II, one of my favourite games of all time, that I really loved. I played it for hours and hours. After that I was always interested in Dune games, and played Cryo's Dune I (IMHO, a very nice adventure/strategy game), Dune 2000 (lots of entertainment with a friend in the mini-LAN I had here in my house) and then Emperor: Battle for Dune, of course, which I followed with the greatest interest possible. Watched every new screenshot posted, every new video, being amazed byt the graphics. I must also admit that I even downloaded the game the first day it was on some warez sites, and spent a whole day playing it, almost not sleeping, when I had some university exams to study, eheh. Of course I bought the game when it appeared in Portugal, and played it lots of time on WOL.

When the first mini-series aired, I decided to read the first Dune book, and I was completely hooked. Readed almost from the beggining to the ending without stopping, and I can only say... WOW! After that I read the other book, including the 3 first prequels from BH/KJA (I have not bought the pre-prequels), but I must say that the Dune book is really the one I like most. Completely absorbing. Since than I am completely a Dune fan. Saw the Dune and COD min-series, the normal and extended TV versions of Lynch's Dune, bought two copies of the first Dune book, and been borrowing to friend, to hook them do Dune... :-) Hell, I even bought the Marvel Comic's about Dune and the Parker Bros table game.

Last, but not the least, I must say that I am an huge fan of Dune Music. From Spice Opera, based on Dune I (fantastic!), passing to Dune II e Dune 2000, to E:BFD and Dune Mini-series, and ending on the TOTO's soundtrack and the marvellous, completely amazing and beautiful Brian Tyler's COD soundtrack...

And that is my story on Dune :-)

I think I'm a bit different from most that have posted in this thread. I actually was interested in Dune before I ever even got a computer. I read Dune when I was still in high school(about 15 yrs ago). I have always been a fan of sci-fi so Dune became a favorite of mine. When I finally broke down and bought a computer, a friend of mine told me about Dune2000. I played that game(never online) and then when Emperor came out I bought that and haven't stopped playing.

A little off the topic now...I hevent played Frank Herberts Dune. Can anyone IM me and let me know how the game plays, and wether or not it's worth buying?
