Just a note to say that the site has been switched to use DreamhostPS for the web server. It should help improve the speed of the server as we now have a "virtual" server instead of a shared server. I might also do the same for our MySQL setup depending on the costs. Anyway, let me know how it goes. And yes I'm still busy for another week or so... so make that late mid-October for my return. :)

Yeah we do still share resources but this option gives us more control over the resources the site can use. Granted the more resources the higher the cost per month. :)

I've actually noticed a speed increase but maybe thats just me. There is also the option of switching our databases to the same sort of setup which would help as the forums obviously use that a lot.

I was going to post in this thread after reporting it, and now that I got back from school I see another spam in the dungeon. They certainly seem to be targeting us a lot in the past 24 hours.

Went from "secret fed2k page", to software, to porn all in 6 hours.

EDIT:

Spammers now onto selling drugs.

Maybe turn on moderation for first post to prevent spammers from posting? At least until this attack is over.

When I go to my profile, then ask for my stats, it gives an error.

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@forum.dune2k.com and inform them of the time the error occurred,
and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I was thinking, if new downloads are not added to the download section that often, how about creating a torrent file for each section (Emperor, Dune2000, Dune2 etc)?

That way people can keep the downloads up when the server is down. When they download the torrent, if they only want a specific file, they only have to select that one and not download the entire contents of torrent. For example if they want a fan made emperor map, the person would download the Emperor torrent. When the torrent opens, only need to select say "Voodoomayhem LAN Map" and leave all other files unchecked.

Using this would mean less bandwidth, and a way to ensure downloads are kept up when download server down.

Unfortunately my internet sucks and I can't use torrents otherwise I'd help seed.

I forget how big the download section is.

Downloads have been down for 2 months. Do we need a hat fund?

EDIT:

Doesn't seem to show much. Didn't it used to link to amazon.com books?

Well the problem is not bandwidth because we have a lot of that but that it eats up CPU/memory which there are caps on. I have made a couple modifications to the download script and we'll see if that helps. As it is now I pay ~$40USD/month and am at the top of the limits for that. So with downloads enabled I will likely have to boost that a bit.

Here is the graph for the last month:

index.php?action=dlattach;topic=8493.0;attach=2450

Currently ps4608 is guaranteed 429 MB for $42.90/month. (Burstable to 858 MB)
