1.2 Petabyte hard drives?

I wouldn't worry about disk storage (or network speeds for that matter) but instead worry about the CPU which will be fast enough to work with such insane storages.

I don't think you could Dawiduh, at least for a long ass time (celebrate it with your 60th birthday). Storage is one thing, but you also have to worry about transfer speeds of the internet, and of the filing system for your harddrive.

why should he have to worry about transfeer speed of the internet? we are not talking about downloading stuff to fill up the storage. there are many ways to fill up a hdd. give me a big (more than 1500 people) 3-day lan and you will be amazed how much storage I will need if it was unlimited... (not that I could fill up THIS drive in 3 days, but I would fill up a lot of hdds...)  :)

Fraps in high resolution would fill a HDD faster than anything.  For those that dont know... fraps is a program that records what is displayed on your computer and records it as a movie.  I have seen people fraps fleet battles in EVE:Online and fill up a 80GB harddrive in no time.  The higher the res the more  space it uses per second.

I would make movies with a highspeed camera :D thats 1 frame every 0.1 millisecond (or something like it..) :D

But defragmenting wouldn't be necessary anymore... fast start and access time, high data channels, and some dual core mobo's with dual processors... will do miracles :P

ah yeah, and it will fill up very fast...

all games, movies, sounds, software etc. etc.

(talking about software... is any OS capable of handling such disks??)

lol,

1 500 000 GB

selected 1 movie 5 GB

Used diskspace:        5 GB

Free diskspace: 1 499 995 GB

OMFG that are 300 000 movies...

Porn seems to have an amazing way of filling up any hard drive (not that I'd know :)). Apparently the biggest chunk of traffic (totally unreliable sources, no doubt) is porn.

Porn would own this disk, given some reasonable time.  8)  Go porn !

yea a porn webmaster would likely use this for their database servers to store ungodly amounts of porn.... i wonder... could all the porn on the internet fit on this one Hardrive?  Now there's a trivia question.

Yeah 250 gig, no prob. Do that 100,000 times more and see if remains a "np". I still think that the disk-writing speed and transfer speed even in LANs would take it a long time to fill up. And don't give me some super-decked computer specs that you get wetdreams from, speak with what you have.

check out the gigapixel project with their special 4-gigabyte camera (www.gigapxl.org) which takes pictures with 4 billion pixels. each picture about 24 gigabyte in size on the pc... so just built such cameras for private use in a few years and your hd will be full very fast...

consider it confirmed.

And although it is a lot of traffic, it doesn't take up that much disk space. Go ask the creators of Southpark who just bough a nice Apple for storage. They can fill up 1,2 PB within no time.

Again, how can any of us normal people (not hollywood/business gurus) fill that up? I'm not talking about rich people with money to pay for the fastest cable line and the fastest computer.

ok, that sounds nasty, actually.

There was a project to archive all the web, perhaps a few projects like that. Maybe they could start to fill up this amount of data.

How big is the Google cache.
