veK Posted November 16, 2006 Author Posted November 16, 2006 there you go: http://planetvek.de/pc.htmlI'll try to make some pictures while modding and painting the case. I hope the painjob works out fine... if so, the case will look really great :)ah btw: my new internet connection is available now. 16.000kb downstram / 800 kb upstream. pretty nice, though more upstream would be great.
veK Posted November 17, 2006 Author Posted November 17, 2006 it's great...I played nfs:carbon the last few days and also made it go widescreen right. it's great. I just need a new gfx card now for high resolution gaming with full settings. I'll get the 8800gtx as soon as prices are dropped to a certain point
veK Posted November 26, 2006 Author Posted November 26, 2006 so today I modded my case a bit. I made a hole in the mainboard tray for psu cables to run smooth behind it and I painted the case matte black. looks pretty awesome now with all the silver screws, coolers, the black hardware, the blue light and the white sata cables. I also installed my new dvd burner. a sata burner - works great so far.here's the case while being completely naked and being painted:http://www.planetvek.de/main/images/hardware/paint01.jpghttp://www.planetvek.de/main/images/hardware/paint02.jpgI know it looks very black on the pics, but the oicture quality is not the best and the light in the bathroom (I painted in there) is a bit strange.
Megashrap Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Wow what a nice little deal that is. Although I want something better, you just can't beat that price. Nice little combo. http://promotions.newegg.com/amd/cpu_motherboard/index.html

Megashrap Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 Yea that blows what I have in the dust big time...thanks.
Cybopache Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 yo check this article out.http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/11/29/geforce_8800_needs_the_fastest_cpu/else it looks great, and woaw you got cheap prices over there.I got a question . Whats the difference in running one 7950 GX2 and two 7900GTX in SLI.cybo
Acriku Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 I'm about to buy the BenQ monitor: BenQ FP202W Black 20.1" 8ms DVI Widescreen LCD MonitorAny concerns I should have before buying it? My video card supports the recommended resolution and I have DVI out on it. Anything else before I get it?
GhostHunter Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 yo check this article out.http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/11/29/geforce_8800_needs_the_fastest_cpu/else it looks great, and woaw you got cheap prices over there.I got a question . Whats the difference in running one 7950 GX2 and two 7900GTX in SLI.cyboThe 7900GTX will perform much better. There's only a slight difference in power from the 7900 to the 7950, and when you have a whole other gpu the difference'll go in favor of the SLi.And Acriku, I wouldn't go with it.I work at Circuit City, we actually have a deal right now for just a tad more, an Acer 22'':http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Acer-22-Widescreen-Monitor-AL2216WBD/sem/rpsm/oid/162989/catOid/-12965/rpem/ccd/productDetail.doNot only is the brand a much more recognizable name, but the quality and picture are an improvement.
Acriku Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 Thanks ghunter, the extra money is not that bad (30 bucks) for a 22". How long's the deal for? I should look around in Circuitcity.com... I should also call CC near me to see if they have it in stock.
GhostHunter Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 I'm not sure with the online stuff. In store usually goes out every Saturday, but I'd do it asap because the cost'll go back to $350.
Acriku Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 Gotcha man, thanks. I'll let you know tomorrow if I get it.
Megashrap Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 I would stick with newegg they have the best prices online. ;)
erjin999 Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Its a shame we dont got no newegg here in the 51st state :(.
Gobalopper Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 Here are the basics for the computer I bought myself for Christmas:Motherboard: Asus P5W DH DeluxeProcessor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6400Memory: 2GB OCZ PC2-6400 DDR2Video: XFX Geforce 7950 GT 512MB PCI-EMonitor: Samsung SyncMaster 225BWI figured it was time for a new one, the last one I built about 7 years ago... I'm going to have to try Emperor again now that I have a widescreen monitor.
veK Posted December 27, 2006 Author Posted December 27, 2006 problem is: emperor doesn't support widescreen resolutions. I play it on 1920x1200 but it is stretched because emperor only allows resolution up to 1600x1200. and even with lower res, there is no widescreen support. the problem is also mentioned in the emp support forum.but it is still okay to play, I have seen worse (I mean games being stretched) but a widescreen patch would be great.the board is cool, I also bought this one. though I'd now probably got for a new nforce board (not because I don't like the p5w dh deluxe but just because to try the new nforce chipset which is told to be awesome by man forum members (hardware forum)).have fun with your new system :)
erjin999 Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 O Great Gob, how about some prices for those components ? My friend wants to put together a system fr himself and hand his one down to his sister, so I will probably need to recommend some bits. I told him to go for the Core Duo E6400 for the price/performance trade off.Video cards I am lost with. Sure, I can tell which is top of the range (tomshardware.com will tell me this) but the midrange stuff seems hidden.
veK Posted December 28, 2006 Author Posted December 28, 2006 give me some more information about what the system will be used for and I can surely give you some recommendations about good hardware. and with good I don't mean the most expensive stuff but the hardware which has a good price/performance ratio.
erjin999 Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 He's a light gamer, but mostly uses several apps at once, so some decent ram would be good.I figure if he is going to buy a grfx card, he may as well get one that will last him as he is unlikely to upgrade again soon.So things like msn, utorrent, word, mp3 player crap like that. Occasionally plays some games, but not really too bothered about them.
Andrew Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 So intel core 2 duo 6300/6400 are good processors?According to wikipedia they have 1/2 their cache disabled. ???All Conroe processors have 4 MB L2 cache; however, the E6300 and E6400 versions have half their cache disabled, leaving them with only 2 MB of usable L2 cache.I presume 2mb cache is still good? (My current computer has 512kb I think :P)I notice at futureshop.ca because of the boxing day sales, most of their computer towers are sold out. Does this mean that once they sell out of current inventory they will only be purchasing towers with windows vista? When will vista be on the market? I think I want winxp instead of vista so it would be nice to know whether to buy a tower now or in a week or 2 weeks.
