Major_Gilbear
Hmm, well I came across this by accident, and is extremely obscure, so be warned.I was looking for a very old game called "A Boy and his Blob", in which you guide your character through the game with the aid of a blob. Said blob turns into various tools to help you complete the levels, and does this via the use of jellybeans that you collect and feed to him at the opportune moment. The jellybeans are flavoured according to a loose association with their function: Tangerine turns him into a trampoline, apple turns him into a jack (as in apple jack), and so on. There is also a cinnamon flavoured jellybean turns him into a blowtorch. ;DAs I said, the cinnamon/blowtorch is obscure, but I cannot see how it could possibly refer to anything else. Vanguard3000
Err... I don't get it. Cinnamon-flavoured candy is usually spicy. That's why the Blob turns into a blowtorch.Very good game, by the way. Major_Gilbear
The Sandworms have that fire in them that the books allude to, and they create Spice, which apparently tastes like Cinnamon. Since the game was released in 1989, I think it perfectly possible/likely that this is the reference.

Spectral Paladin
This may be a spoiler for Matrix Revolutions (and Dune Messiah):[hide]Towards the end, Neo becomes the blind Messiah who can see in his own way.Apart from that there is a resemblance to Lord of the Rings 3 too. There is a city under siege doomed to fall, and two heroes are going in the heart of the enemy's land to end the war.[/hide]
nemafakei
Both seem to stem from Homer or similar.[hide]Blindness/Prophecy: Demodocus (Od8) and perhaps Homer himself, as well as countless other references in ancient fokelore.Heroes in city: A good part of the Iliad[/hide]
Nefud
And there's a whole book which makes jokes about Dune. Unfortunately I do not know the English title of the book, but the Hungarian is "Dinnye: Avagy a homokbolyg

Mahdi
Great cartoon based on a great sega game. Just like Sonic the Hedgehog (where he and his friends were rebels in a war against Doc Robotnik. Most violent childrens program EVER according to japanese research.) Moose212
I saw an episode of Star Trek Voyager this evening where the doctor was talking about being born on the planet "Arrakis Prime".
Dante
Was he refering to himself, and did you get that correctly? As far as I'm aware, the Doctor in Voyager is a hologram; was he 'made' there, perhaps?
Moose212
yes, he is a hologram but he is refering to the first time he was activated as being born. I didn't get the exact quote, but it was something about stepping onto the sandy soil for the first time.
Andrew
Google is a great thing.http://www.thelogbook.com/log/voylog6.htmlNotes: The Doctor mentions a visit to the planet Arrakis Prime, an in-joke reference to the spice planet in Dune. Tako
how could I have mist that one?I wach voyager all the time but and know almost every episode, could be one I mist though question: wich episode?
Andrew
The title of the episode, according to the link in my last thread is One Small Step.
Vanguard3000
Though I don't question the reference (Mahdi has already mentioned Star Trek's tendency to sneak Dune references in), Arrakis (sometimes Al-Rakis) is a real star, which can be seen from Earth.
