Gobalopper:  No, only R.M. Mohaim said "Atrayades" once or twice.  Every other time it's "Atraydes".

In House Atreides (IIRC), the Steersman calls Leto "Atrayades", and they made it out to be the wrong pronunciation.

I don't think the acting was that bad.  I think some actors did very well.  Namely the guy who played Yanich Kobal, Michael Dorn (Duke Achillus), and the guy who acted as Gunseng Harkonnen.

Well actually, we do know. Atreides is Greek, remember? So, we use the standard Greek to English pronounciation (I know, I'm sad)... and we get A-trey-dees. Tleilaxu... well, there's definitely an L in it. Tly-lax-oo is my guess.

i believe that atreides should actually be pronounced similarly to in the game

Atreyidees .

The word is ancient Greek i believe

and of course as it was written in a different alphabet it would be written phonetically when translated to English. Despite this it sounds better in the movies :)

oops didnt see your post, Nema :)

and IX should be pronounced Icks (i think anyway) because its just taken from the roman numeral for 10 (see children of Dune.... i think...)

Why the hell could no-one in Emperor cut scenes pronounce Atreides properly?

I could be wrong, but I think Duke Worf got it right. Although he looked like he was half-asleep when they were shooting his scenes. :O
