Anyone think there is a sort of "Generation Gap" on this site?

Generations:

1st generation (combined of original site members and pre-second generation): Gob, me, davo, edric o, shiroko, shaddam, etc. Also known as "Old School"

2nd generation: Ordos45, exatreides, acriku (Moidib), etc.

3rd generation: TMA, Dust Scout, newt, etc.

4th Generation: Last year.

Fourth and third kinda blend, but listed sepretly anyway.

Any general comments to be made on what you perceive to be the politics of FED2k?

Acriku is younger then 3rd generation people... But to be sure, politics are the thing of the last year. I've found this site at the best time ;D

It is quite interesting really about the gap. Timenn would be in the Third Generation and people like Inoculator and Navaros would be in the fourth.

At least I get a mention for a change. I'm also the oldest member out of the ones mentioned aswell.

I'd consider myself third generation, unless we were to add a fifth. COnsidering there are members going as high as #2650 for their member ID's, my #1700 or whatever is really significantly older, even if I have only been a member for a year or so.

I've been here for two years now Maybe there should be a fifth generation for people with a Member Number after 2000

nope, that's way too late. after 1200 is fifth generation. those guys weren't around for the Westwood Board

I suppose so.

First:Original Members

Second:Joined before 2000

Third: Joined before Emperor Boards closed down

Fourth:People who joined from the Emp boards

Fifth:The next Generation

Momma Mahdi, when do I start getting allowance? Or should I ask big daddy Gob? ;D

Seriously, it is interesting to see the gaps. Another of the recently returned original generation is MechaDragonX...yes...I can remember when he had that cool image in his sig... *starts off musing like an old person*

Nice to get a mention.

Yes, I noticed the gaps. I thought it was rather cool. Spent many happy times imagining it as a kind of hierarchy (which of course it isn't... :-X )

Anyone remember the 'guilds' idea in General? That was a suggestion I think; based on member number. Something like that.

me and o45 joined at about the exact same time we have grown up together on the forum hehe.

I remember back when it was just duneiverse and general discussion.

fan fiction didnt exist....

PRP didnt exist...

Gaming didnt exist...

Dune editing didnt exist..

The Emperor board was the Dune 3000 board...

when the dune2000 board was the main board....

ahhhhhhhhh the days would only go with a few posts, sometimes none at all, the spamming was at a minimum, the flam wars were......tastefully done.

and everyone was friends becouse of a mutual love of dune......ahhhh those were the days...

Yep, when i joined there was a board for each house + a board for the subhouses (combined) and the DG board was there too.

(not mentioned before) there were 2 more sites under 'hosted sites' when i joined, i can't remember their names though.

Shai-Hulud, the map editor?

As to politics, there is more of a divide due to how people behave... there are some familiarities owing to 'generation', but most of the friction within the site, and also the co-operation is based on the differences and similarities in how people react to others, how well they consider their posts, their patience and so on.

I have noticed that a lot of people take advantage of this generation gap, while others handle it with absolute maturity. I have seen a lot of attacks on (noobs) and the like. Still though I have seen a lot of these supposed newbies act a heck of a lot more maturely tahn other older members. Inoc is a perfect example of this, he is deserving of something in my opinion as well. There are also unknowns at this site that are never mentioned at all but play an important part to the site like vanguard. I think that many times people use the generation gap only when it comes to their advantage, and when they want some sort of noteriaty. Which is why many new members to the site want to be automatic moderators and landsraad members.lol

I respect those who are old to the site and treat it like nothing, treat the politics of old and new like they dont exist.

By the way, didnt mean this to be a muck raker, I just posted it as an observation, anybody see what I mean?

and thanks for the mention mahdi, whether it is one of noteriaty or of infamy, I am not sure.hehe

Bah, silly youngsters... ;)

I remember the days when my greatest concern was the "victory of House Ordos". Heh, it seems so childish now. And the Ordos are filthy capitalists, too... :)

Hmmmm, maybe I should join House Atreides? That would be ironic, wouldn't it?
