Used to play a game on the old Ameiga (Ameiga? Amiega? Amega? Amiga? I forget...) called 'Desert Strike.' You played a helicopter and those one thing my sister and I loathed about that game were the rapiers. Damn things destroyed us nearly every time...

I used to play that game on the PC. The Rapiers were not guided and easily dodged.

About polearms, a formation of halberd weilding men is almost unstoppable. But if you carry light armour and a short melee weapon like a gladius you can easily take on one in a duel.

I would have one of those samurai swords, and I don't think its a katana,as (as far as I know)katanas can't cut throught iron(I saw an old movie where somebody was demonstrating the samurai sword;it cut through a machine guns's barrel with ease :O )

Strengths:

Light,easy to handle.

Cuts pretty much anything apart

Weaknesses:

If you're not trained, when you're cutting through someone and swing too hard,I think you can end up with a severed head(But I'm not too sure)

Not sure I agree with the scythes. I've tried fighting with a scythe, it's really tough. They're unwieldy and only really useful if your opponant can't move faster than a rock.

I'd have a Nagamaki (4-6 foot long staff with a blade on one end, a cut down version of the Naginata) and a wakizashi as a sidearm. With the Nagamaki I have resonable range and can keep my oponent away from me.

I never said to fight with it.  :P I just like it. I would have said Trident, but you took that already. :)

You didn't say anything, you just posted a picture.  :P And after all this is a thread about weaponry, not agricultural implements...

Actually, most flails were used by infantry to crush shields of spearmen or powerfully armored knights. In 15th century, it was even more useful than first handguns, which were good maybe only to scare enemy horses...

Spiked ball on stick: mace.

Spiked ball on chain on stick: morning/evening star.

I thought it's like this?

Stick with cylindercial shape of metal(spiked or no spike):mace

Spiked ball on stick: morning star

Spiked ball on stick /w chain: flail

wrong.

a mace is a basically a stick with a a hard object on the end spiked or not a flail/bola/morning star are all the same, DnD manuels aren't completely accurate ;).

Mace is any blunt crushing weapon. Let it is primitive heavy wooden stick, hammer, metal scepter or spiked thing as morning star or flail. Flail is a morning star with head on chain. I think it was logical to concentrate weight of maces around the head from beginning of human mind, so there aren't needed such strict definitions. But difference between morning star and flail is significant. While morning star was used as a weapon always, flail is originally a peasant tool to beat crop, however, during various medieval rebellions they found a bloodier use for it...

correction a mace and a warhammer are differant, you're being too general. a mace is for pure bludgeoning while a warhammer could be used to do blunt damage or the hook on the end could be used to pierce or pry off armor.

Samurai swords? Since when? Anything that cuts "pretty much anything apart" has to have enough weight behind it to do so.
