Apparently, the new forum software does not warn the user who is about to post a reply if someone else posted in that thread during the time the user was writing. While I was posting this comment, ErasOmnius posted another comment in the meantime, and I didn't get any warning and only noticed that much later (when posting yet another reply in the same thread). There's a considerable interval of about three minutes between the two posts, so the absence of the warning due to simultaneous posting is ruled out.

Not sure about the warning system but I would imagine it would. If it happens again let me know and I can take a closer look.

I'm still investigating the search/smf bug, it must be something with the conversion.

I've enabled memcached which I'm hoping will help to speed things up. Let me know if you notice any difference.

I've just updated the forum software to a newer version, nothing major just 3.1.2 to 3.1.4. I've also bumped up the memory on our VPS to 500MB so hopefully that helps some with page load speeds. More stuff over the next week or so.

And athanasios why do you need NoScript enabled for this site?

all the non existent ads :P

Finally my problem is fixed. Thanks Andrew, Gob, ErasOmnius. Anyway if you cannot log in you cannot post here! ;-) . But you can request through another member. And please keep an email handy to copy for those who do use an external service, as link provided doesn't help them.

Ah, after 10,000 years, I'm free! It's time to conquer... wait, no.

Yeah, I was unable to access FED2k for several days. My thanks to those involved in fixing it, and to Dante for making my plight known. To expand on what ath said, the link to "contact the webmaster" just lead to a generic "webmaster@gmail.com" mailto link. There was no way to contact anyone. I tried using the old Dune2k homepage's contact webform, but I don't think it even still works.

Any idea what caused this?

Good News!

If this hosting will be on a permanent basis may I suggest to merge some subforums like 'general'?

At ubuntuforums.org they are implementing stop forum spam ip ban list. Maybe this would help with the spammers.

Completely useless. Most don't have a static IP and anyone can create a new email address in a snap. Starting to block IPs will lead to blocking almost all IPs!

Viewing new content is now a little confusing, as these new "The Terminal" boards share the same name for their General Discussion board... namely "General". There's no way, at a glance, to tell which is which.

While I'm sure that the F9 Diesel is far too powerful for us mere mortals, I don't necessarily care. :P

Hmm, maybe rename terminal General and add a prefex such as "T General" or something. Temporarily can figure out by hovering over "General" (in view new content page) and

http://forum.dune2k.com/index.php?/forum/6-general/

6-general is fed2k

http://forum.dune2k.com/index.php?/forum/44-general/

44-general is terminal

EDIT:

oh, I see, terminal has 3 "General" boards. Yah, that could get confusing.

Maybe:

RT3General - Railroad tycoon 3 general board

RT2General - Railroad tycoon 2 general board

RTGeneral - Railroad tycoon general board

URGENT: I noticed that many posts in the Terminal are duplicated.

Yep, go into any thread and duplicates all over the place.

It looks like each thread doubled.

Just some weirdness: I went to "Manage Friends" to send a message to one of my friends and when I clicked the mail icon next to their name it tried to send the message to me. I basically just had to click on their name and send the message through the button under their picture. I'm not complaining, exactly, it's just silly that clicking the mail icon tries to send a message to the user who's doing the sending.

Another forum I'm visiting uses the same software as the new FED2k, and it switched to a default skin similar to ours, so I've been able to make some comparisons. First off, the overly broad margins I've complained about earlier seem to be a standard issue (at least, I have them in both forums), but I'm more or less okay with them now. The only noticeable deficiency of the forum look so far is the screwed-up menu in the forum header (see attachment).

Yeah, I'm not saying it is the best forum skin but it was cheap and works ok. We could get a custom skin for around $200-300 if anyone is willing to start taking donations. ;)
