Dunenewt
Sometimes when I go to the main forum page it comes up and says page has no data or something like that...

erjin999
I thought the No Data thing was becuase I was using FF. In fact I get that at other sites too so I assumed it WAS FF not behaving.
erjin999
I had major connection issues today, Database errors on SMF. The Whos Online page for emperor was talking about links to mySQL. ???
Gobalopper
That means the database was down for a bit. Happens every so often it seems.Unstickified a bunch of threads in "General" that didn't really need to be stickied anymore.
erjin999
The DB isnt on the same host as the Webshite ? Wouldnt it be better if it was ?
Gobalopper
No same host, different server. When you host as many sites as Dreamhost does it doesn't make sense to have the database server and web server on the same box.
erjin999
Sorry, by host I meant box, by server, I meant the Os/proggy that serves that function, but yes, I guess what I thought was what you were/are saying, same company, seperate boxes...are you on a shared host ? That wouldn't make sense for an DB server to share same hardware as a webserver, becuase its shared. Its strange, I cannot remember having those DB errors before, are they new ? Gobalopper
Yes its shared hosting. Dedicated is much more money. With our old host the database was running on the same box as the web server so usually if things went wrong it looked as though the entire server was down. Gobalopper
There were some odd database problems earlier, they should be fixed now.
erjin999
Yeah, seems to be happening a bit more often now. :'(
Andrew
Just got the same error within a couple minutes it was down.
Gobalopper
We had some more database problems last night. I've made it so the main site will still work when the database goes down but the forums won't as they rely on it.
Timenn
Is it possible to have an automated message for the homepage, saying that the database is down, if the database is indeed down?
Gobalopper
Already does. :)If it can't make a connection to the database a message will display at the top of the content area saying that some features of the site won't work. Timenn
Wow, I'm curious, I have never seen it. Could you make the database crash?
Gobalopper
That will require more donations. ;)
Gobalopper
Dreamhost is upgrading the database server so things on that front should be much better once it is completed.

Gobalopper
I'm pretty sure you can signup to PayPal if all you have is a bank account. Then you can just transfer the funds using that. I am not going to give out my bank account numbers...
Andrew
The buttons to lock etc are not all showing up for me. The only one that is is merge. They show up in IE, but not in firefox even after I cleared cache etc. Wondering if it is just me. (using firefox problem only)[attachment archived by Gobalopper]
Gobalopper
Works fine for me. Are you not using the default forum theme?
Andrew
I am using Forum or board default. (Tried Fed2k also, but i think they are the same anyway, and no result)
