ok, now my opinion:

Starcraft is best game in all time if you ask me, and also beats Emperor.

Emperor is not a classic to me. But quite entertaining, and if you're a fan of the Dune books, you will like it, even though it's not all that true to the books. (you have tanks and stuff)

Have you ever played a Westwood RTS?

WW is the company that 'made' Emperor. they also made tiberain sun, ra, ra2, yuri's revenge, firestorm, and a few other Real Time Strategy (RTS) games. he wanted to know if you've played any of those.

Welcome to Fed2k and hopfull to the Duniverse too. If you liked Star Craft then you'll love Emperor:BFD. It is a great game, tho the singleplayer mode is a bit lacking the multiplayer makes up for it. Hope to see you one the battle field

heheheheh ;) New2Dune. This board is full of madmen. Rogue1986 may be the worst, so do not pay too much attention to his opinion, he just escaped the madhouse.

So, like i said. Starcraft is GREAT. Emperor is good. *Emperor lovers, don't read this* [hide] not by far as good as Starcraft though [/hide]

Anyway, ww was the founder of RTS, although not many people play the game, you wil have an very pleasent experience with co-op compaigns or skirmissions or even quickmatches online! but watch out for people using an annoying bug, i wont say it because i don't want you to try it and spoil someone else's fun.

this game is nothing like SC or any crappy Blizz RTS - but that is a GREAT thing. once you use interface that pioneered the entire RTS genre - which is almost what you get here (though dune 2, the game that started the whole RTS genre and which was "sorta" made by the same company as Emperor actually had a better interface than Emperor because you could make multiple types of units from different buildings of the same type simultaneously whereas in Emperor this is sadly lacking) you will quickly begin hate the clunky, awkward, diffcult and stupid interface and parameters of all Blizzard RTS games

unfortunately UN-like Blizz RTS games, Westwood/EA has long-abandoned Emp and left it to rot shortly after it went retail, as Westwood/EA does with all of its games. they will never touch it again.

WOL is buggy and laggy by default regardless of how fast your conn is, and will disconnect you if you switch windows for 60 seconds. almost no good players play Emperor anymore. there is no meaningful rankings these days. cheaters are free to run rampant and nothing is ever done about it.

btw WOL is like Emp's version of BNET but BNET is 100 000 times better even though BNET RTS games themselves are 100 000 times crappier than Emperor.

Emperor is ruined by many resource-gathering bugs that Westwood/EA promised to fix but never bothered to. these bugs will cause you immense frustration if you plan to get competitive in Emperor. which you probably wouldn't since almost no one plays at all and nearly 100% of those who do suck at playing

that being said, for $15, it's a lot better of a way to spend your gaming dollar than some other crap that floats around the bargain bin Ie: Earth 2150 games and their immensely nauseating voice acting that you are forced to hear every time something builds/moves. the voice acting in Emperor is excellent, overall (a few last-ditch additions for units they forget to finish recording for, were thrown in to Emperor and they sound *horrible* - i think those lines were recorded by a non-English-speaking-guy on the development team the day before they needed to push Emp out the door) anyhow i'm going off on a tangent. yes it's worth buying if you don't mind a bug-laden and dead game which had a lot of potential that was never realized and is still fun to play

New2dune, filter very carefully through Navaros' bullshit. He isn't one of the best players to ever play this game, no matter what he says. You'll like this game. It's great. Is it actively supportd by Westwood/EA? No. But it's a fantastic game as is, and at current prices it is the best game deal out there. If I had just one PC game, I'd want it to be Emperor.

That said, if you want a Westwood-type RTS with a larger fanbase and more competition than you could ever desire, buy C&C Generals when it comes out. Will it be as good as Emperor over all? Time will tell. But it will be a very good, very popular game for at least several years.

No, they weren't. There were RTS games before Dune2. Herzog Zwei and SimAnt, though I haven't played them. WW did make RTS popular though.

And I advice not to listen to Nav, as many would. The fact that he hates Earth 2150 shows his lack of judgement :P

@ Nav: nobody forces you to listen to those voices, there's an option to mute them ::)

? never heard of them... all sites gaming sites also say that Dune2 was the very first RTS. Isn't that Herzog Zwei and Simant a TBS game?

oh and New2Dune, ignoring the other guys was a joke. But ignoring Navaros is for real. I didn't put him in my ignore list for nothing. Unbelievable that Gob allowed him back :(

I just started reading Dune and wondered if this game is any good? I enjoyed the game Starcraft = is this similar? Thanks.

SC and dune .. in the way that they r designed r not similar at all... if u try it out u will see a complete diference in the 2.

E:BFD is one of the best games i have found yet.. and it's not TOTAL corroption and chaos i suppose it is in some clans... but u can still have a great time playing online... and get a ton better at playing the game from picking up BO's (building orders) from the better players.

If you really like StarCraft, you may not enjoy Emporer that much. They have totally different styles. If you're into the Blizzard interface, you might want try WarCraft III. If, like me, you found it a bit clunky, then Emporer might be for you.
