Ok I am sick of these dam chain letters. In 7 minutes I got 4 e-mails and 5 i.m's of them. Frankly I see no purpose to them and whoever made them orginaly should be burned on a stake >:(

HAH. That's nothing...I get at least three dozen junk emails a day. They're all crap; offers for porn, telling me how to get out of debt, read someone's FBI file, how to hypnotize people into sex, enlarge your penis etc.

YEP! I'm SSSOOOOO sick of crap email. THIS is the downside to the internet. People make programs to search through sites and directories to find emails, then they sell them. Then those companies sell them to others, and your problem gets worse and worse and worse. Plus it's free...it's not like sending something through post where it'll cost you the stamp, the paper, and the envalope.

I think I'm gonna beat the crap out of someone if I ever see one of these again:

Chain letters have got to be the worst of them all 'cause they're usually sent by people you know. They have all this good luck crap, lies and BS, then these stupid testimonials like "So and so sent this letter to 10 of his friends and because of it he invented cold fusion, discovered the cure for cancer, and obtained infiniate knowledge and immortality the VERY NEXT DAY!"

Posted

I especially hate the ones from friends that say you have to send it back to them for some inane reason. And if you don't send it back, they think you didn't appreciate the e-mail.

You obviously don't have yahoo do you? I recommend you change servers immediately. All the "spam" mail goes to the bulk mail folder (and it actually works) so whenever you're checking your mail you just press "empty bulk mail" and you don't even have to look at it. :)

Posted

Yeah I'm with Yahoo and I find the bulk e-mail folder very useful. It's usually all spam, but I look in it to check just to be sure. In the unlikely event that spam actually reaches my inbox, I just report the message to improve spamguard, and then block the sender and delete the spam. Period. 8)

What is this "spamguard"? Is it your own list or is it a yahoo standard. I used the block feature of hotmail but it only allows you to block 250 addresses. It has a "junk mail" box as well, but it sometimes blocks regular messages.

Posted

Spamguard appears to be a yahoo standard which blocks e-mails that are likely to be spam from reaching your actual 'Inbox' compartment, which effectively helps to sort out spam from legitimate e-mails. I use hotmail as well, but I can still manage spam control there. It really doesn't bother me that much, I just look at the title of the e-mail and if it looks like spam I just move it to the trash and then empty it.

Hotmail does basically the same thing. You just put your filter on "exclusive," and you only get e-mails from people you put on your list. It works this way: when you first get a hotmail account, you have no filter. Gradually you begin to get more and more unwanted e-mails. When it begins to get annoying, you set the filter on a higher setting, and you can even block whomever you wish. When even that won't keep out the trash, you simply put it on exclusive, and never again will you get any e-mail from anyone you don't add to your exclusive list. Very nice.

WHen you first get a hotmail account, I thought the filter was set to 'high'? ??? Anyway, it can become quite tedious managing all the contacts you have and adding them to your address list so they won't be blocked if they send you an e-mail at your hotmail account, and if you forget to add new contacts they will be blocked if the filter is set to 'exclusive', so that's why I just stick to the 'high' setting. It's still quite good that way, spam rarely gets into my inbox. ;D

Whoa...i just let my account go for 30 days. Hotmail de-activated it. I reactivated it yesterday, and there hasn't been a single junk letter since! Flukey...

I cant stand that either! lol and another thing that bothers me which isnt really spam is when friends just forword a message to everybody on his or her address list. I mean talk about not putting any meaning or goodness into it.lol especially when they get all nicey nice in them. gehh I cant stand that.
