That law against gaming in Greece is absolutely ridiculous. Just because some people are excessive gamblers online, that doesn't mean that innocent people who just like to play games for fun and that are non gambling, should suffer. :O >:(

We will still SEE Ghosty, there's nothing in that law banning Internet forums...

I doubt this law will last more than a few months. Greece is part of the EU. The European Court and Parliament will do something about it.

Oh my God, how this country can be in EU? This is liberal market? This is CENSORE like in totalistic, authoritatistic countries! This is way how to "fight" against violence? Let they retreat from Cyprus, then we'll see how peaceful nation Greeks are.

OMG!!! :O :O :O

Jeez, I can see the riots already. Can the government even DO that? Who authorized such a thing? And Edric said the American government was slowly, subtly leeching rights away: There's nothing subtle about this!

(BTW, We elect a new, non-Bush governor for Florida soon YEAH!)

Im sure this law wont last more then 3 months, cuz what are the gamerz gonna do when there are no more games?

Right, either hang infront of the tv or hang in the streets and do whatever they do in greece.

People need gamez, when they come from their work (or school) all stressed out, they sit behind their comp slaughter some peeps and just forgot work and all the normal things in life and create their own world.

Damn i would suck i couldnt play gamez anymore.

Greek Law Number 3037 sounds like something from Logan's Run (old sci-fic movie). True Edric O there is nothing in the law about internet forums but we are connected to games very directly could this be grounds for supposed illegal action against someone like our fellow ghostysquare and others? If the Greek government is taking this so serious he could be assocaited with 'criminal activity' by visiting this site. I mean that is taking it to an extreme but if the Greek government are taking measures to crack down on computer gaming who's to say they would not to the same at a person(s) visiting an internet forum that is connected to a computer game?

This is utterly ludacris. If the greek government wants to ban competition-based wagering, fine. There's absolutely no reason for them to ban ALL online gaming. I mean, lets face it, how many of us have ever placed bets on dune2k or E:BFD? If they're going to ban any and all types of electronic games, they might as well go and ban board games, sports, billiards, athletic competitions, and rock/paper/scissors! In fact, bets can be placed on how good a student's marks are in school. Better ban school too! Jobs are the same, but that couldn't happen, I mean people need to work. Hey, why not have it so everybody makes the exact same salary no matter what they do or how well they do it, that way people cant bet on things like raises and pensions! In fact, wagers can be plased on predicting the actions of others...why not ban socialization? Hell, why not throw everybody in their own little box, isolated from anything they could ever place bets on ::) ::) ::). This is a JOKE! Even COMMIES didn't do this!

It's not like I'm obsessed with games, but this is ridiculas censorship!

I did read that. They are incompetant. They could ban games that involve playing for money, but NOO! They're too freaking stupid. It isn't rocket science people. I mean, banning online chess??? WTF! It's the same as real chess, just done through an electroning medium. Obviously whoever proposed or passed this law had absolutely no foresight.

Frankly the Greek government isn't stupid, so they must know a lot more about the situation than you do. And it's true that you can't distinguish it, but what they did wrong was ban all games, because you can't stop it by doing that, not because there might not be gambling done on online chess (which could very well happen, or has happened).
