well i deleated my old account after all the landsrrad drama, and started a new one a few weeks  later, so I guess i could be exexatreides ha ha.

Man looking at one of those threads i seen a refernce to the baron 99, anyone remember him? Was like the first flame war on the forums, the first time we had to stand together to defend against a common idiot.

I remember we lost some posts at one point and you had to use a backed up database. Only lost a couple days I think.

Haha, I remember that, it was right after I had accidentally overwritten one of Dante's posts in a PRP topic where we were having a debate... very convenient. ;D

By the way, as another sign that the community is aging, notice how we don't seem to have flame wars any more?

The absence of flame wars is not necessary a sign of aging - more like maturity. Everyone surely remembers Navaros?

For example, let's take the pizza thread. It was a hilarious read, but actually it's quite sad. If I remember correctly, he was well over 19 or something.

I'm not exactly sure about the current aging and maturing of this community and I myself am a relatively new member - I've been around only since 2003, mostly spamming and lurking. At least I have seen myself maturing... reading older posts makes me nearly cry. Other members have somehow always seemed to be more mature, both in age and behaviour.

Maybe it's because I usually check only general and gaming boards and rarely even post anything. I stopped reading Emperor and other Dune game boards ages ago, and the PRP board has never really terrifically interested me because I always get trampled over in bigger arguments (I, however, occasionally check the section, anyway). I've noticed some change, though, and it's mostly for the better.

06 September 2003. I seem to remember finally joining here due to the WOL servers being down and Westwood boards closing down.

But i used to visit the site regularly prior too that and followed many of the flame threads, personally i found Navaros highly entertaining most of the time in a strangely weird way.  ::) ;)

BARON99 was possibly the worst human being who has ever visited these forums, while navarous was annoying in his insanity, BARON99 was annoying in well every single thing possible. Hell me made up girlfriends to defend his points.

I really dont think anyone should be given "speical privleges" for simply being on the board for a long time,

i disagree here.  those who were here longer SHOULD get special treatment based on SENIORITY.  SENIORITY is a factor that is respected and held to in ALL CIVILIZED SOCIETIES.

but here at fed2k, SENIORITY IS IRRELEVANT. that should not be the case.

those with the most seniority should be who makes up the majority of the Landsraad - but that is NOT the case now.  right now it's pretty much a matter of who happens to like you, and in at least one specific case that i am aware of - how many people's butts you kiss in order to get them to "like" you and eventually invite you into the Landsraad.  that's what i don't support about the Landsraad - admittance is based on who you know rather than how long you've been here.

maybe the SENIOR MEMBERS of fed2k need their own secret board too

yes you're right i suck with Hark and Ordos and i've always admitted that.  that does not make my truthful statements any less valuable.

the ATR turret is *slightly* better than the Hark Flame turret, and by a larger degree better than the Ordos turret. but SO WHAT?!  turrets are not a major factor in Emperor gameplay.  they play a very, very small role in the grand scheme of things

i don't appreciate you talking to me like i'm a n00b either, brennq, seeing as I've been playing QM longer than you have.

the SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR THAT DETERMINES THE WORTH OF A HOUSE IN EMPEROR IS HOW FAST THAT HOUSE CAN MOVE.  ATR is the slowest House, therefore ATR is the weakest House.

again, i am NOT saying ATR sucks - if ATR sucked then i would not have been able to beat a gazillion people in Emperor with ATR (ATR is the ONLY House I use btw!)

all I am saying is, the other Houses are better in the grand scheme of things. and they are.  the following universal RTS equation PROVES it:

SLOWEST RACE IN ANY RTS = WEAKEST RACE

...now add in the variables:

SLOWEST RACE (Atreides) IN ANY RTS (Emperor) = WEAKEST RACE (Atreides)

if you Brennq are able to easily fend off Hark or Ordos with ATR then the ONLY reason that is so is because you're wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

the Hell better than your opponent is.

Atreides "air control" you say.  By "air control" I'll presume you mean "Atreides are the best because it's the only House that i can't Gunship to death!" - well that my friend is not enough of a factor in overall Emperor gameplay to make ATR better than another House.  ATR has no AA trooper and that's a HUGE detriment for ATR.  Both other Houses get an AA trooper.    Sometimes you can lose all your drones instantly (especially with FOG ON - how all elite players play).  By the time you realize they are being shot, your drones are already DEAD.  Even before you can move them to safety (how fast or good your micro is is IRRELEVANT).  Then you are left with NO AIR DEFENSE. (and mongooses are shit air defense considering that you have to STOP building Minos in order to make them and they can't catch drones anyhow --- unlike the AA trooper that ATR does not get, which is a MUCH more viable solution to drones).  That happens to the best of the best ATR, ALL THE TIME. 

your point about using ADV Carryalls to pick-up Minos is also moot. yes, you CAN do that.  but guess what:  it's a lot SIMPLER for a Hark or Ordos to launch a SUCCESSFUL attack on an Atreides player than it is for an Atreides player to successfully DEFEND from that attack.  This is because ATR has drastically gimped mobility and ADV Carryalls are only a partial solution to it.  They are not an ADEQUEATE SOLUTION.  especially since you have to click EACH ADV. INDIVIDUALLY.  that TAKES TIME. again, don't feed me BS like "you suck Nav, your micro sucks" because it is IRRELEVANT if you are the best and fastest microer in the world - picking up Minos TAKE A LOT OF TIME which is a HUGE detriment that Hark and Ordos do not have holding them back.  any competent Hark or Ordos will be wasting your economy during the time you're spending picking up Minos one by one instead of microing the troops you have in your spice.

You want me to give you something you can't counter?  Try being an Atreides on the right side of the Arged Desert Map and beat a *GOOD* (key word = good - not your n00b "buddies") Hark or Ordos with that.    I'll even watch.    Providing you can get a GOOD Hark or Ordos to play you under those conditions, which I doubt you will (you'll probably suggest the name of some n00b from your clan who doesn't even know how to cope with Minos in the late game)
