Kinda makes you pissed at people like President George W. Bush for impeding on his fight for stem cell research by being completely against it.

Yeh... But do you think he would have encouraged stem cell research as much if he hadnt had been paralysed from the neck down?

If I was paralysed and had truck-loads of money i'd have done the same thing.

I don't mean to soar his memory in any way. You are right, he inspired a lot of people and that is priceless and he should be remembered for that. Doesn't make him the most unself-less person to be alive tho...

Well, you tend to become more passionate for something when it affects you that much. Also, it was the paralyzation that showed him how important it is. If we are to become advanced in the stem cell research, then people with his condition will be able to live normally again, or so the field proposes. So your question if he would have done the same if he hadn't been paralyzed is kind of rediculous. That's like saying would a breast cancer victim donate so much money to the Breast Cancer Society for Women if she hadn't had breast cancer.

But he wouldn't of!! Christopher Reeves wouldnt have cared less about paralyzed people if he hadn't been paralysed himself.

And that's true. But what's your point? That's just like everybody else. It isn't his fault that it took his own paralysis to get him active in fighting for that cause. Question is, was he doing it to save himself? Very unlikely, as stem cell research is not at all advanced to that stage, so perhaps there is a sense of altruism in his fight?

I agree,

He only realized how important stem cell reasearch was when it came apon him because how else can you. And he made a big difference and inspired many people to fight for what they believe in.

so... superman can die. Most people dont know even when he was handicapped he did a star role in a movie remake about the guy who is in his wheel chair and starts nosing around his neighbors' buisness and swears he saw a murder. he did an excellent job. and he became a guine pg for the field of stem cell research. He even has his own research foundation.

He has also been in quite a few episode of Smallville as Dr Swan helping Clark understand his destiny, just a few weeks ago Margot Kidder was in it as his assistant. The original Superman, Lois and Lana all in one episode.

I was really bummed out when I heard of his death, its not like I knew him, although we did share the same birthday.... some sort of mystical cosmic connection thing there, but I was left empty that day.... maybe cause he was an icon of mine growing up.

Thoughts and Prayers for his family and friends.

in short smallville is the roots of superman. Last week he met the Flash, at the end the Flash said he was going to cruise the world looking for other ppl like him and clark, and that they could start a club or a league.
