Ok quick update. Olaf has sent me the code for the ladder server and I've been able to compile it on my computer. Still have to work out a few bugs with sending reports though. Thanks to Apollyon, Blade1911, DjCiD, and Vilgent for helping out in the tests. Hopefully we will have some sort of ladder running this weekend.

And no there won't be any freeloaders because you would still log into WOL to play games.

Ok guys I need some test data for the ladder. All you need to do is extract the exe from this zip and have it running in the background while you play Emperor. It should do all the work for you. Let me know if it gives any errors.

And Vilgent replace the one I sent you earlier with this one.

Well i played a game just now, it was running it the background. Nothing.... its there i dunno if it did anything but its just running in the background nothing else.

Usage:

Open XCL Proxy

Add the following line to your hosts file: 127.0.0.1 games2.westwood.com

Play

Remove the line you added from your hosts file

Close XCL Proxy

Hmm so the program screen didn't output any text when your game added? Make sure its a WOL game, this doesn't work on skirmishes.

You can always check your hosts file to make sure that line is there, the program should add it but it might not always work.

The hosts file should be:

C:WINDOWSsystem32driversetchosts

Mine looks something like this:

# Copyright © 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.

#

# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.

#

# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each

# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should

# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.

# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one

# space.

#

# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual

# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.

#

# For example:

#

# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server

# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost

127.0.0.1 games2.westwood.com

So How do we do this? Thru the QM option? I'm so confused?

Am I dreaming or did you say something about if both players don't have the program it wouldn't report right? ???

hmmm hey gobbie look at this... ???

Sard, myself and two other enjoyed a massice all out war, I was hoping to have a good report. But as you can see... I guess it messed up.

Do you have to open pro then start emp and host game or start emp, start prog, host game or start emp , host game, start prog?

Is ther a certain order? ???

Gob, have you considered asking EAP to help you guys out here ? I seriously doubt they'll have a problem with you guys setting up a server similar to WOL and with it a ladder (they basicly already have fans making their own ladders with the new games).

Btw, 127.0.0.1 games2.westwood.com is already in the hosts file if you've installed a Westwood game.

No, it's not.

You could also try http://xccu.sourceforge.net/utilities/XCL_Proxy.zip It forwards results to XCL: http://xccu.sourceforge.net/xcl/

The order in which apps are started doesn't really matter.

Actually I got the "can't read game results" using that program to. Has anyone been able to run the program and not get that error message?

Not sure if it will make a difference but try this version of the program instead of the one I posted earlier.

Well, i tried the cookie monster's ( gob ) link but that came up with 'cids error.

but after i quit a wol game, i minimised and it said, sending results.

I played three games, two gave the error, but the other didnt

1st game: Lost

2nd game: Lost

3rd game: Quit

it was the third game that grabbed something
