I am not usually the type to agree with many ultra progressive "liberal socialist" ideals, but I believe that all people are equal and beautiful. God made us this way and he has enabled queens, kings and emperors of all nationalities rule over large nations. we are all equal. This site though I have noticed, treats women pretty bad. I dont think it is usually on purpose, I just think that people here either really dont get out that often and have a problem communicating with women, or its that they just dont know how to treat a girl on a mostly male issue (such as Dune, portions of politics, and some religious thoughts that are talked about.)

either way I have noticed this and have seen women come and go faster than the speed of light. Some have stayed for a while but others just get out of here and I have heard from a few who say they "dislike the atmosphere". Anybody notice this?

Well.. I dont know what to say about that!

I get pretty paranoid about posting, but I don't know if that's cos I am girl or cos I am just not very confident.

You guys can be pretty intimidating, but I don't feel particularly picked on as a girl.

I wonder sometimes whether people disregard my opinions on certain issues for that reason.. but even if they did.. I don't think they do anymore because I think everyone is pretty much used to me now.

I guess I make my fair share of dumbass comments though.. so I probably deserve whatever I get.

I think when this board went down and a few people went over to th dune forever board I felt more confident and now I feel fine about this board too.

But all of that isn't particularly for sex reasons.. just cos I'm me, I think.

And I can't be the ONLY girl here.. there were 2 of us on the other board!!

I think I agree with your diagnosis, TMA. Yes, you are indeed criminally insane :P.

If anything I think most people would be kinder to female members than male members, at least that's what I tend to do on forums.

EDIT: heh I just realised that that's a form of sexism in itself... guess I'll eat my words ;)

I have seen little of a distinctly sexist nature, though I have seen what might be considered relatedly offensive. But that is unavoidable to an extent when dealing with a population of mainly male teenagers. Not that I don't try to glare when needed.

he Mars/Venus symbol thing was an innocent question. I myself wondered that when I was younger. I didn't pay much attention to it once I explained to the starter of the thread what it meant, though.

Anyway, I could see it being intimidating to be a female in a board with an overwhelming male majority (maybe not, but I think I'd be intimidated). I try my best to treat everyone the same as everyone else, though.

As for God making men and women equal: that's not what the Bible says.

The Bible says women are to be in subjection to men. Also that man is the glory of God, and woman is the glory of man.

According to God in the Bible, men are superior to women. It's right there in black and white in several different verses so there is no possible way you can dispute that the Bible says that.

From a logical standpoint, it's nonsense that men and women could be equal because men and woman are different. Logic dictates that anything which is different from something else can therefore not be equal to what it is different than. That's basic mathematics.

However, you don't see few girls here because it's a sexist forum. Rather, because most PC gamers and Forumers are guys. Girls are hardly ever into that kind of stuff. In fact, most of the "girls" on almost any online Forum are in reality guys pretending to be girls in order to attract attention from other guys. LOL

Please provide some evidence to back up your claims before you so hastily slam us all into the gutter, TMA-1...

I didnt pose this as an absolute guys. I asked this to see what you guyss think and to explain what I feel is happening. by no means am I right, I just have a gut feeling about how things are handled with women in the forum. I could be wrong like a said.

Well I for one have never noticed any sexist remarks or discrimination/different treatment of female members of this forum. I have noticed however, that some female members in the past have come and gone quite quickly, but never thought it could be due to them feeling intimidated or discriminated against in an 'unfriendly atmosphere'. ??? I thought it was more the case of them not having much in common or much to discuss with the majority of the active and regular posters, so they would probably have found it boring and left. I know that there is one 'female' (using inverted commas because I'm not sure that it is actually a female) that apparently only visits the Dune 2000 forum sections and posts there, and I would guess that that is due to her only being interested in discussing Dune 2000, not sexist discrimination that has kept her away from the other forum sections.

I have seen little of a distinctly sexist nature, though I have seen what might be considered relatedly offensive.

I don't check every single post that every single person makes at the FED2k forums day in and day out, so if there is any 'sexist material' that might considered relatedly offensive, I would appreciate it if you could direct me to those messages/threads so I can see for myself. :O Personally, I wouldn't want to be associated with a forum that is truly sexist, in any way.

In fact, most of the "girls" on almost any online Forum are in reality guys pretending to be girls in order to attract attention from other guys.

How do you know?

But that is unavoidable to an extent when dealing with a population of mainly male teenagers.

Again, how can you be so sure that the majority of posters/members at FED2k are male teenagers? Perhaps if this forum is so sexist, they may actually be females pretending to be males in order to get more decent treatment!! ::)

How do you know?

Experience with various Forums and human behaviour patterns. Knowing how the average male (read: horny imbecile) mind (thankfully I don't have one) works. This very thread proves it in itself.

Read between the lines. If you want a relevant example, look no further. What is the most likely underlying purpose for the very existence of this thread? The message is: "I wish there were more girls here because girls who like Dune/computers, just like I do, turn me on immensely!" (and no, I personally don't subscribe to this philosophy - in fact I prefer to have as little contact with "girl" forumers as possible for reasons already stated above).

Referring to your first post, why should girls be treated differently? Perhaps when you want sexism, look at yourself. And you provided no hint that you thought you were wrong, you asked if anybody noticed this, that it did exist. I find it offensive that you would assume some of us do not 'get out much' because of our relations towards women (who are so few).

True, infact we have no reason to believe that you yourself are of the female gender. Perhaps this post is naught but an irony-laden jest. But if one is to make any headway in this world we must give people the benefit of the doubt (though not too much benefit). But what does it matter? I'm just here to find out why I can't start-up my copy of Dune.

Later.

I think beyond a doubt that this is the sexiest forum on the Internet!

Dune fans rock!

(tsk, tsk)

In general, men do more things like chat on mesage boards and follow sci-fi, combine that with the small number of women gamers and it becomes surprising to see any here at all. My Kitty likes Dune, but doesn't post here because it is not her main intersts. She prefers to talk on horror based message boards like http://noesforum.cjb.net along side me.

I have not seen anything personally that would make me think that anyone on this board (other than Madhi) is a sexist. I just don't think its in most females nature to talk to a bunch of dorks like us.

if i said/say anything please cansider it untoward, something i would say to anyone dispite race/gender etc.

I don't think there is many people like that on this forum though if any. there is at least towards a particular belief/religion/idea.

acriku spreads strife. if you understood the kind of person he is in real life, you would understand. I proposed a question. frankly some people just dont get out too much and that is a big reason for it acriku.lol looking at you. ;)
