What do you think will the next step? Reaching for the stars?

I'd really like that, to explore, to colonize... to actually build something new.

I think that's our future... We have to expand into outer space, or we'll just slaughter ourselves into extinction with wars, terrorism, suprapopulation, etc.

We send out humongous space ships that after a few thousend years finally reach another populable planet and grows out to an independant society.

Back at Earth, we nuke ourselves to smithereens.

Earth, that was rather comforting ;)

For now, we will continue unmanned spacecrafts 'exploring' - but in the future I certainly expect manned spacecrafts to be on the horizon. That will be the day :)

Well, the future is ours... I don't think that anyone on this forum is older than 25...

I think there are not enough money invested into space exploration.

I hope that someday I'll be able to name a planet I have just explored and start colonizing it.

Earthnuker: the future could be as bright as Star-Trek, as weird as Star-Wars, as dark as MadMax, or as captivating as Dune. We can shape it...

I would like to see hover cars or something like. I figure since oil and gasoline will run out eventually the automobile industry will convert to electrical or other, I'm not sure what it will be or what method of transportation will be. Maybe like Back to the Future II ;D

Oh yeah and Space Exploration too, I think Enterprise (the New ST series) could happen in my life time

SOME pple from earth will leave for another planet,I think Mars ;)

Then the pple on Earth will continue fighting each other for the remaining resources left.

I will say like Aldous Huxley (well I think it's him): the stars are forming a shallow goal if more justice on this planet isn't acquired. So I say the first thing would simply to kick lobbying out of politics and make a good step against what some call "neo-colonialism". Basically: build some mechanism against certain behaviours (making war impossible to be profitable, etc.).

I am fascinated by journeys to far away places like the Planets in our Solar system (or places like Antarctica or the Ocean depths). All of the current missions for space exploration are for unmanned spacecraft. I believe the space station being built is the first stage of future planned missions to Mars, but they are still a long way off. Here is a site for Mars missions: http://mars.jpl.nasa.gov/

I would love to see a manned flight to Mars, but it will be a dangerous mission and from what I have heard it will be a 3 year endeavor. They have to launch when the Orbits of Earth and Mars are close and that only comes around every 18 months. Once launched it will take something like 6 months to actually reach Mars. The astronauts will then live on Mars for almost a year before they can make the journey back to Earth. It's fascinating stuff.

Yeah, they're sending a machine to Mars to make energy/fuel from C02 so that when they get to Mars, their vehicle is already there and has enough fuel to go back to earth. It's pretty cool.

In the solar system we'll use nuclear power, but outside the solar system... i dunno...

Honestly, I believe that we will first see the dawn of nano-technology. By that I mean that we will create nano-based organs, liquids and so on. I also think we will experience the dawn of simple robots. Like cleaner-bots. Small robots, or well, about the size of a cat (we'll have to watch out in the beggining :P ), that cleans the floor in buildings. I don't think we will experience hover-cars. I also think that we will have Internet 2, and maybe 3. Very fast connections, real-looking games and entertainment. Effects in movies will become harder and harder to spot. I think Steven Spielberg, when he made "Minority Report", asked a team of "future-scientists" (people who study how the future will look like in X years). So, yes, I think we can expect Minority Report-like technology around the year 2050-60. I believe the Chinese will have a huge success in space, since they have the economy to create spacecraft and train austronauts. I think a science magazine mentioned that the Chinese will be the first ones to land on Mars. Anyways, I've heard that the USA will attemp to reach Mars around 2015-20. Pretty exiting. Although, I believe the global condition will become more unstable, people will have to take a closer look on our envirvoment, the "third world countries" and so on before we make any real attempt to colonize and explore space.

We'll get to the stage for major new enviromentally friendly technology and then kill each other for it. Eventually weapons will become so terrible that a single war will destroy the planet. I don't think we'll last unless some outside influence (like little green men) curbs our bloodlust.

Anyway, who needs flying cars? I want spacerafts (StarCrafts also accepted :) ). I want to explore... to start mining on far-off planets, asteroid belts, I want to colnize, to start building cities from scrap...

I think I should snap out of thet dream, shouldn't I? :'(

Well, I like to design things... but I dunno how good I'm at actually building them. What I mean is that I have some ideas of how to make a spacecraft. I once desinged a small submarine... it could have worked ;D
