I had planned to do something really nasty to my old primary school for banning Hallow'een, commit arson or hang the head teacher or something. But as it turned out I was busy on the day. They banned it because it is 'Pagan' to some people. They are supposed to be a non-Christian school (which explains the regular hymns, bible readings, and visits from religious personalities doesn't it?) so why should it matter? They aren't allowed to say the word 'Hallow'een' to the chilodren, put up decorations, celebrate it, nothing. How pathetic is that? It may not be to everyone's taste but that's no reason to bann it!

Besides, to quote Susan Sto Helit, after being asked why she introduced children to the occult, "So that it won't come as a shock." If they over-protect them then what will happen when they find out? Although I'd bet my pet snake that they will all already have found out.

Still, maybe I'll get lucky and the person responsible will get hit by a firework.

Halloween. I handed out candy dressed as a Starfleet Officer. I handed out candy, I scared small children cooperating with the Girls up the street who were dressed as fallen angels. I tried to get a date but then was told about her gang member boyfriend...

Oh, and the school's Key Club was doing "Trick or Treat for Unicep (sp?)". You know the UN organization that helps feed children in poorer countries. The Key Club is not allowed to do so next year. Some woman called enraged that our school was raising money to kill babies. She saw on some Conspiracy Website that Unicep collects money on Halloween for abortions.

They banned Halloween for being Pagan at your old Primary School? At my old Primary School this Jewish mother complained that they had no Hannukah signs LAST YEAR. So guess what, instead of putting up one Hannukah sign, the Principal banned Christmas, and all mention, decoration, and attempts to celebrate it. Now the teachers and students can get suspended for mentioning it. All thanks to an idiot principal and a woman who wanted equal rights for her religious holiday.

So because of that incident last year, no Christmas for them this year at my old Primary School.

(Another thing about my Halloween. Religious missionaries telling the Fallen Angels and I we needed Jesus in our lives. The "Fallen Angels" were Catholics, I'm a Baptist. And people wonder why the holidays are stressful?)

You found some missionaries? You lucky devil! They always seem to end up preaching to the converted... The last time one came to my house, I wasn't in. I never get to argue with them.

Ah, well.

Banning Halloween? Banning Christmas?? This is ridiculous. Why don't we ban all holidays then? Surely they must offend someone! ::)

Oh, and there are people out there (Bin Laden & co.) who might be offended by our very existence. I know, let's all kill ourselves! ::)

People can celebrate what they want to, where they want to, when they want to, as long as it is lawful of course. Speaking of missionairies, two Mormans (sp?) came to my house a couple of weeks ago, and when they answered the door they asked "Have you heard the good news?" Well, I said no, and invited them in to tell me the news over some coffee and dancing ;D. Hehe, I can't even begin to describe the looks on their faces...

nah the credit is deserved. The new testament states non-violence. Though there were christians (i.e. Catholic and Protestant churches) that tortured people, they completely didnt know what hte bible said. Muslims dont believe in violence per ce. Still though they are extremely militeristic. A little too harsh and controlling for free will to exist. Muslims Started early in conversion by the sword. The church only started because of the curruption of the biblical principles when Constantine came into power.

Muslims were very hospitable in the early days to non muslims.

Keep in mind that most muslim nations do not enjoy the same degree of life quality as we do, so they devote themselves 100 % to their religion. Jealousy is also one reason to become violent.

It would be interesting to know if christians would do the same things if the muslims were the rich guys.

halloween- Its just the night the lord of the dead( like shalavak or something) granted the dead go back to their homes one night of the year.. often on these nights druids would order all the people to put out thier hearths and they would make a huge bonfire on the hillsides, and sacrafice people and animals to see the future, then the druids would allow the people to light their hearths with the fire from the bon-fire..

anyway..

i spent the night with my g/f... enough said

Harry Potter is banned in Public Schools in my county as well. Too many parents complained about it being evil, turning kids to Satanism, etc.

Anyhow, Halloween is way too commercialized. What happened to the days where it was known by names such as Sahmain, Feast of the Dead, Feast of Apples, etc.? What happened when it used to mean something, when it was a time to remember those that had gone before?

Ordos, you of all people should know how society perverts such things...We have lost the meanings of many things over the years. Take Independence Day for example, the one day people get out their flags from the attic and eat burgers ::)

holidays are worthless anyways. Besides its better if they are commercialized. It helps the economy and business. Also our culture isnt centered around spiritual or cultural practices like that. It really would mean nothing anyway. Ritual is nothing without something behind it. It sounds nice if it was like it used to be, but it would still be the same halloween. Like I said before, Holidays are only good for getting gifts and getting days off of school and work. other than that, most of them are antiquated practices. Not including things like mlk day and memorial day.

(By the way. You say your a christian ordos and I have no doubts about it, you just seem almost too accepting through all your posts. (note: This is only for ordos to respond to.) )

Too accepting, possibly. This attitude has earned me names ranging from Heretic to Pagan to Anti-Christ from certain members of my Youth Group at Church.

I try to understand other religions, not to start out discussing them with someone by telling them they are going to hell, it kind of turns a conversation downward. As for remembering, yes I do like to remember those who have passed on to (hopefully they accepted Christ as their Savior or it will completely nullify my next three words) a better place. But I feel you can do that at any time, its just that modern society has no set day to honor all who have died, but instead splits them into groups such as Veterans, Patriots, etc.

As for ritual without anything behind it, I too fell that happens often. It is unfortunate, and often makes a society, group, etc. grow stagnant and faithless. However there is always hope that such stagnation can be reversed if but one person has the faith and courage to do so.

nah you arent any of that ordos. In fact you seem pretty cool. Just most of your youth group doesnt seem to understand "judge not or you will be judged." I was just wondering. Sometimes understanding a negative in a positive view point can lead to destruction is all. Just be careful man. :)

First point, *collapses in hysterical laughter* ok, done now.

Second point, When Hallow'een actually meant something other than greed it wasn't so much fun for all the brainless, noisy, vandalising hooligans known as small children. Although it would be nice, almost all of the old festivals and the like have been taken over like that. For example, in some cultures it was customary to GIVE presents on your birthday. Does anyone do that now?

(Serious question, not rhetorical, DOES anyone do that?)

Posted

Yeah, if you're a Hobbit, it's common practice to give away presents on your birthday, of course...I'm not a Hobbit. ;)

Kill ourselves, you know, Edric, that might not be such a bad idea ;)

Dang, the things you miss in homeschool, banned Harry Potter ehh? Cool. Anyway, I was spared the disgusting dislay of hundreds of greedy children outside my door. It really makes you wonder if you should call them goblins without the masks. Aye, I was at a concert at my church, I didn't really care for the singing, but it was better than nothing.
