Does anyone here who plays Emperor online ever play infantry war? I haven't had a good infantry war for ages, and I can remember how fun and hilarious they were. It seems like people are forgetting that this type of game exists. :(

Well, in infantry war Atreides doesn't stand a chance. Flamers and Mortars rule. And the only effective ways to get rid of turrets are Sard Elites or Mortars because turrets mow down every other kind of infantry. I play infantry war once in awhile, and I've never seen Atreides win one. Snipers are ok, but mortars outrange them and it takes more than one sniper shot to kill a flamer.

the only problem with infantry war is every one has a different set of rules... its like playin the card game spades... a lot of ppl kno whow, but are used to a different set of rules (btw if ya like spades drop me an IM and we can hook up on MSN gamezone... I am King oF the Nill) ;D O0

I don't really like them cause the ordos player wins, (mortar own infan) So that's why i don't like it, and usually the rules get twisted so ppl built mcv and squash infantry.. etc...

Good day

Infantry Wars arE Co0l!!

Different type of game, and a good occasion to learn the true values of all infantry.

And indeed the rules in every game differ, like infantry wars without fremen and sardaukar, of wich i think they suck.

rofl last time i had this guy who hosted an sardaukar only game. Man where's the fun!!

Especially Fremen and Sardaukar make it such a fun game, mixed with your own House's infantry (man mortars ROCK).

I'll host some of em up the next coming days and invite everybody to come have one. To make it clear I will tell the rules in advance, and they are far from unreasonable.

No vehicles allowed, so no building extra mcv's. If you get yours killed, you will have to be very careful with what you have left, given you are able to save that.

No turrets allowed either, since they are, well, no infantry and are fairly an overpowered item to use when fighting with only infantry. So its winning or losing with infantry. Nothing else.

Allowed subs are Fremen, Sardaukar, and Tleilaxu.

Tleilaxu requires a factory in order to be able to construct them, and the fact will be sold after it has served it's purpose.

Hasta la Pasta 8)

Guys, you're forgetting something here.

The Atreides has snipers, and a enermous group of Atreides snipers is very lethal to the enemy. The Atreides Infantry is very quick and the Harkonnen soldiers are only effective in close range, same goes for the Ordos soldiers.

Though the Mortars are only effective if they hit the enemy.

yeah, but a few mortars would get them easily.

Lol my mortars have support, a good mix of fremen snipers, sardaukar and some mortars can handle an attack many sizes larger than themselves. Plus i will have scouts around, within the firing range of my mortars. In infantry wars, Ordos rulez, everything else sucks.. ;D

its those rare times I do get called a cheat, in infantry games (yawn).

Everybodys ploughing away, building silly soldiers - and me? Loads of buzz.

Jeez, what a boring game infantry war is.. I'd done with playing soldiers when I was 4 - just cant seem to get that excitement back. :-

Yes...

I've played infantry war. There're several problems that can upset the game however.

Turrets: Turrets should be banned. They make winnings impossible. However if you are the kind who likes long impossible games, this is yours.

Ordos: House Ordos has almost the best infantry for infantry war. Flamers are too slow, but the chemical troopers run very fast, and can take out snipers in large numbers. Mortars backed up with chemical troopers form a great team to decimate a sniper army. House Harkonnen has an answer to this tactic, but still House Harkonnen would have difficulties. The thing goes as follows:

Atreides --> Harkonnen --> Ordos --> Atreides...

and it goes on.

Fremen: They SPOIL THE GAME! I quickly banned Fremen before anything could go wrong. Fremen might be fun to play with, but whoever has too many Fremen tends to decimate the base before dealing with the infantry, and that's not too good. Harkonnens can easily slaughter the Fremen with Flamers but it's still no good.

Sardaukar: I knew a friend who built like 3-4 Sardaukar Barracks and started pumping Sardaukar. He was the first to get killed. Why? He built Sardaukar...only Sardaukar. To make things worse, Sardaukar Elites seemed favourable to him for infantry war. Sardaukar (the normal ones) rock, but the Elites cost more and suck in Infantry Wars.

Spice and Harvesters: This is probably the most stressful part of the game. With no more vehicles, and if Fremen are allowed, Harvesters are darn crap (don't ban me for saying that!). They get killed by the Fedaykin. But if you play on Homeworld maps, you find yourself in a very exciting Infantry War. A highly recommended map would be Carthag, and that 4player Sigma Draconis map.

Some factors make gameplay fun...

Walls: Every player should build a dungeon-like part in front of his base, making his base barely accesible other than going by the sides or by storming the front (maze), they make gameplay fun. I suggest everyone use the auto-build walls thing (included in Emperor) and squeeze walls, as much as you can, and see how much fun you can get.

Certain Vehicles: If you like you can allow certain vehicles. For example, you can allow sand bikes, dust scouts (no buzzsaws!), or even APCs.

Man fremen rule, but they can be dealth with. Just use alot of scouts. Heck, you can even cause the death of many enemies using scouts (any kind of inf provided there are mortars around). Sneak up a scout to the enemy troops, then when ur close u run them in between. U'll probably lose the scout but the barrage of mortarshells that will come down on themselves is hilarious, killing friend or foe in its blast..

And an infantrywar aint an infantry war if vehicles of ANY kind (except harvs when ur playing on spice) can be used. Cos on that moment I can just as well go build kobras minos buzz or catapults.
