Nestcape defeated by a cheating competitor

I was impressed when i read the last WebsideStory's StatMarket report about Navigation software, IE owns the market with 91%, Netscape 7% and Opera and Mozilla get what is left.

So that 91% was a cheating victory, and i hope more soon than later ppl will have the intention to use any other but IE.

I gave a chance to Netscape 7, and frankly this is the very first time that I notice a good improvement in Netscape, I specially like the feature of multiple windows like is in Opera.

Zamboe, shut yo mouth foo :P

IE got to where it is with ingenius tactics, a lot of luck, and great ideas. Netscape is a good browser, but many prefer the familiar IE.

Damn, bad luck for Netscape, but I hate it since they ran it at with me on school, version 4.7 something like that.

Netscape is surely improved now, but I still hate it. Because of that version...

I think Netscape 7.0 is based on Mozilla 1.0 but with a few more features. The latest version of Mozilla is 1.2a and in my eyes its much better then IE. If you are a web developer its a lot easier to write pages because Mozilla displays them the way they should look while IE you have to spend time trying to make workarounds.

Anyone who thinks Netscapes sucks because they didn't like 4.78 should really try the latest versions of Mozilla because there are a lot of improvements.

As for the number of people using IE that will probably change once AOL starts using Netscape instead of IE for their software.

In my use, i found that mozilla is kinda of a light version of netscape, however it's not as fast as opera (at least in my pc) and the fonts are a bit bigger.

IE was the only option for many ppl, it was put in windows without the chance to uninstall it, that's why i call it cheating, IE didn't get the 91%of the market because of its features and benefits.

Not to forget Miscosoft holding back information about there internet servers so other OS'es like Solaris, Novell and UNIX couldn't adapt enough to enshure full compatibilety with the main backbone servers running on Microsoft software.

But considering browsers, wasn't Mozilla created from Netscape sourcecodes ?

As far as I know Opera is the fastes browser. And Mac OS X combined with the new IMac is the slowest combination to run any browser with.

At this moment, I'm using Netscape, IE, Mozilla and Opera to surf the Net. [ stopt using those text-based UNIX ones for about 2 months now ]. And the best.. . .at this point I don't care, as long as they work and don't need to many firewall rules in order to function propperly. But think that in a week I'm back to Netscape and Opera again.

Mozilla is a complete re-write, mainly by people at Netscape, that is why it has taken them so long to release a "1.0" version.

The Netscape releases, versions 6 and newer, are all based on Mozilla but have added things like more advertisements and integration with ICQ/AIM.

Earthnuker here is what has changed for 1.1 since 1.0:

And 1.2alpha since 1.1:

Oh and here is a loadtime graph and how it has improved.

Still not perfect but they are working on it. The biggest reason Mozilla is considered slow is that it uses a standard UI for all platforms but there are programs like K-Meleon that remove it and are faster.

Zam you may not be able to uninstall IE but you can change the default browser and completely ignore it. That's what I did. I use Mozilla now. The thing I like about it is the automatic pop-up add killer. I find it's a bit slower to load pages initially, but faster to reload. Plus with IE the items to load seem to come in succession, while in Mozilla everything seems to appear at once.

Gob, what does this k-meleon program do?

K-Meleon is basically just the browser, no mail and other things that Mozilla has. Its just using the rendering engine of Mozilla which is fast by itself. The only downside is that it hasn't had a new version in a while but I hear they are working on a new release that should be out soon.

You can safely delete IE from your computer, but it takes a few steps of knowing about it, and I can get into it later. It's basically a way-around the MS security(rofl).

or the simple way.

In windows XP

Control Panel - Add Remove Programs

click on the Add remove windows componants, and uncheck IE in there, and click next. This way, its mostly gone, and all you have to do is delete the left over files.

I have nothing against Nestcape, in fact the last version is quite good. But I dont have anything in favor of IE. I have so much in favor of Opera, the fastest browser in my opinion.

Interesting that in the exact place in the options that Mozilla has the option to "Disable Pop-Ups," Netscape 7.0 replaces the option with something else.

With 7.0 Netscape took the plunge from ultra-customizable, versatile browser to user-unfriendly spammer.
