Question for you computer geeks out there

For me Nav, 60 is more than enough. Right now my comp (which my entire family uses) has a hardrive of 6.4 GB and it isn't near filled up.

I don't know what IPC is, could you explain it to me?

Option number one comes from a small computer company called "Palmerston Computers". It is there student spciel which the owner actually designed after his daughter told him everything she needed when she was going away to university a few years ago . Options number 2 and 3 come from Midwestern Communications, a franchise here in midwestern Ontario that focus's mroe on phones than ocmputers now (although that wasn't the case a few years ago.

The sheet doesn't say integrated or permantaly stuck, but the guy said that everything on this computer is upgradable, and if I was a big gamer he said I'd need to upgrade to a bigger card (but since I'm not a gamer, it's not that much a problem) so I think it's the first one you said.

I beleive his exact words were "This thing is upgradable as hell."

You may be content with crappy hard drives now, but once you experience the luxury of never having to delete or uninstall anything, ever, you'll never go back. Trust me, it's a beautiful thing. I laugh myself half to death every time I see people post about problems "re-installing" Emperor. It's like, why did you UNinstall it? Because you have a crappy Hard Drive? Hahahhaahha. Sux to be them.

I have millions of hefty PC games, with millions of saved games for almost every one, and millions of very high-bit-rate MP3's, and plenty of space left over. Not having to worry about space will revolutionize your life.

Here's another tip: Don't let them skimp on Hard Drive speed. Make sure you are getting at least 7200 RPM's on your Hard Drive. If it's 5400 RPM's or less, it's crap, don't buy it. And also that you are getting ATA 100 or better (as opposed to ATA 66 or worse).

Unless Mahdi is running a porn ring I doubt he needs a 60GB hard drive.

Have you been reading my posts in the radio station thread?

Nav, I've never had to uninstall anything on my comp. I don't play many games at all. I ahve no doubt that if I did, 60 GB would be very nce, but for what I sue a computer, I just don't need that much space right now.

The bigger the hard drive, the better. Trust me. I've got an 80 gig drive, and it's only got 41.1 gig left. Of course, I have about 20 gigs of old home movies stored on it, I'm converting them to DVD.

Mahdi, just go for option one. It seems to fit your needs perfectly.

As far as I can tell from the specs, the sales guy was right with the words "this thing upgradable as hell".. as long as the parts that fit in are available of course :)

Funny you should say that...My very perverted (former) friend has 20gb of porn on his computer. He runs it as an FTP server on MIRC. I find it difficult to look him in the face now that I know that.

He only has 20 gig of that stuff ? ;DThe bigest harddrive you can possbibly buy has a couple of terrabites. But don't count on it that it'll fit in your present computer.

Nope,

deca, hecto, kilo, mega, giga, tera, peta, exa, zetta, yotta.

And the one I know if isn't that big. It was 1,2 or 1,4 TB, not even 2 but mayby by now they have a 2 TB version.

*sigh* ok mahdi, option one seams to be a very good buy (don't I think nyar overlooked all the extra you had in there, when he stated it was overpriced) As a fellow Canadian, I know all the prices since I am going to be ordering a new computer within the next two weeks aswell (quite a bit better than your though ;)) I reccomend NOT buying from a place such as future shop. However independently operated computer shops THAT HAVE BEEN AROUND FOR SEVERAL YEARS offer great quality, as well as fair prices. Sure dell is cheap and offers top-of-the-line processors, but you can't even choose the most important part of any computer...the mother board! They just assume that most people (like you?) will just overlook the mobo and say "wow 1.8ghz!" You need to make sure all the parts are brand-name and no garbage no-name products, especially on the mother board. If you get an AMD or intel chipset, i reccomend Asus, nobody beats it for reliability or performance.

Nyar, AMD owns intel anyday! Sure intel's fastest processor beats AMD's. But...

-If you compare equally priced processors, AMD wins by a long shot

-If you compare equally rated proceesors, AMD wins by a long shot

-If you want a chip that you won't have to change the entire mobo and RAM whenever you want to upgrade, AMD wins by a longshot.

-When you sum it all up, intel's are just overpriced, underperforming, unversatile, short-lifed processors when compared to AMD's lineup.

Have you got a comparrision for a Xeon ?

Ok, I'll cut the cr**. Some prefer Intell, others AMD. There are a lot of topic and sites about what is better, but they all end up in nothing. You just like AMD or Intell. So just leave that for now and stick to the main issue.

Apart from the upgrade thingy and your summary, you're right.. But I still prefer Intel over AMD. About the upgrade, it depends on what you what to upgrade to what.

Don't tell me if you're going to upgrade your AMD processor, you do not want the faster mememory to go with it ? Not to mention the chipsets on the newer motherboards that offer extra's (like AGP 8x and USB 2.0 for example)..

Like said before, Intel "owns" the current performance market, and nothing AMD can do about it. No discussion possible :)

And why would you say Intel processors have short life ? I still have some old comps with Intel processors and they work just fine..

I have had AMD processors and they have given me nothing but grief. I switched to Intel and no problems what so ever. I for one am willing to pay more if the product works like it's supposed to do. I have an inbox full of problems with AMD processors. I've been in the business quiet some time and have seen many problems, and I can say: Intel owns AMD and I am willing to pay that extra money ;D

Suppose I want to upgrade from a Celeron 450 to a PIII 733...I would have to get a new mother board as well. Now 1 year later, suppose I want to upgrade from that PIII to a P4 1.8ghz...I need a new mother board, and probably new RAM aswell (depending on what type of quality I am looking for in the mobo.) Now 8 months later if I want to upgrade from a P4 1.8ghz to a P4 2.53 ghz, I will need a new mobo again! Talk about finding ways to steal your money...Now take the same situation with an AMD buyer. He wants to upgrade from a Duron 650 to a Thunderbird 900mhz. All he needs to is change the CPU. 6 months later he wants to upgrade that 900mhz thunderbird to a 1.4ghz thunderbird. All he has to do is change the CPU (it would be OPTIONAL to upgrade to DDR Ram, which would also need a new mobo, but again OPTIONAL). Now 8 months later again, he wants to upgrade that aging thunderbird to a shiny new Athlon XP 2200+, ALL HE HAS TO DO IS CHANGE THE CPU! Now after reading that, you look me straight in the eyes and tell me AMD hardware is not more versatile, and compatible than intel chips! As for AMD chips being less stable than intel chips...it is all just good or bad luck. In an old system I have an AMD k6-500 and it works just dandy...no problems at all. I also have a PIII 600 in another system, and it works just fine as well.Yes intel does have the fastest chip on the market, but who in their right mind is willing to spend $600 USD for a chip that performs 8-12% better than AMD's top chip, which you can grab for just over $200 USD! Certainly not me, and certainly not anyone I know.
