That's because there is nothing different. Like I said in previous post, it was just a security fix because I think they screwed it up in previous release.

Session Saver doesnt work. Now, I dont know if it worked previously as I use FF built in saver. Actually it did, cos sometimes I would double up with both FF and SS  recoveries...

So there, its broken SSaver 8).

Just curious if anyone else has had this problem at one time or another and if there is a fix for it. What happens is,when I go to load up a video link it tells me that I need to install Flash. But I have installed the damn thing over and over, sometimes it will load up,sometimes it doesen't. MSE will load them up always,it's just Firefox that does that for some reason.

Firefox usage 25% in Europe.

Dunno about the flash video thing, I get too pissed off when videos don't load in firefox because they say it needs IE or WMP, or they just won't load because my hosts file blocks video ads thus cannot watch the video.

Dang! Seems like it's confirmed the Netherlands is that backward country that I always thought it was.

I guess I have to refuel my Firefox campaign...

I will post my experiences soon (as soon as I have time) about getting flash working on my ie, and hopefully it will help you with flash. I used the flash uninstaller tool (separate download made by macromedia (now adobe). Then found a redistributable version of flash as the webinstalled one kept reporting it was still installed. Major headache till I got it sorted.

ISP blocking connections?

Get Tor.

Then get Foxy Proxy Firefox extension

Then you can browse the web without getting blocked (denied access to websites).

Getting another ISP May 9th woot (or so I hope as long as I can get reception)! They've been going crazy last couple days trying to block me from doing lots of stuff. :D But I keep finding a way around it ;D ;D

EDIT:

Apparently Tor is not needed for foxyproxy to work.

EDIT:

Silly ISP blocking access to anything with "tor" in the url. I guess Toronto, realtor, story are not prominent in any links. Dunno if they are trying to block access to urls with torrent in them or what, but it is pretty stupid if done network wide. Almost as stupid as a couple days ago when they somehow disabled cookies. So logging into anything was impossible. No more email, facebook, university login, any messageboard login (well some worked).

Though when you pay them to connect you, you pay them for access to the internet. If they only provide access to a certain subnet of the internet, they are not doing what you paid them for.

Andrew, have you ever asked your ISP what the hell they are doing?

check your contract for that ;)

It doesn't apply to consumer / private internet subscription. In The Netherlands the KLPD is working with almost all ISP to block child pornography without customers even knowing it.

Unless you own the connection lines, you are using their network and have to follow their rules. And unless you are using any form of encrypted protocol (VPN, SSH stuff like that. SSL doesn't count) they can change and read whatever you do.

They are their own little ISP (well maybe not little, probably second largest wireless where I'm from, they purchase internet from a larger provider and resell it wireless to provide it to rural areas). They put their equipment on our land, on our "silo" (big thing used to store silage, but not used in past 20 years). Those big tall round things you see on farms. They did this so they could reach other communities.

So we get the internet for free since they put that up there. But I'm guessing they don't like me or other people downloading lots of stuff. I'm guessing it costs them $ per gb, and since we're not paying them, they don't like it if I download 1 or more gb per day.

I have no idea if they are doing it to just block me or not (I'm guessing so since this started when I moved home). I had to use a proxy to do enable torrents. And now I need a proxy to browse the web since *tor* is blocked. I'm surprised they havn't simply phoned me.

They asked me one day last summer (within an hour of starting download) what I was doing when I was downloading torrents (legal torrent). They had previously blocked all ports which meant torrenting or connecting to websites that used proxies was impossible (as well as IM, so I had to get a programmer to change code in Miranda so I could connect). But that was before I knew how to use torrent programs properly, I was probably slowing network down. But I've only used it the past couple weeks between midnight and 6AM, when no one else should be needing the bandwidth. But I'm guessing it must cost them $/gb.

So I'm switching ISP and gonna be paying $55 a month. Which means I can phone up and complain all I want :D. Which I will do as soon as something goes wrong. They also said they don't block anything, which was good to hear.

Here is their usage policy, which is the same as the new ISP I am switching to found here. See Route2 (new ISP) for more info on wireless internet on PEI.

Nope :P

But the free internet is for two households (houses).

If it were not for them, we would have had dialup for about 2-3 years longer than normal before the other ISP setup. (got it around 2002)

Over here GSM of WiMax antenna's go for somewhere between 3.000 to 20.000 Euro's a month if they want one on your roof. Depending on the location, the company and the need for the antenna.

Must be one hell of an Internet connection you get from them then...

Probably fastest wireless possible (when it's working and they are not blocking shit). But of course not exactly fast. 600kbit/s down, 100kbit/s up. Fast enough for wireless in the countryside. My ISP when in the city was 10mb/s down, 1mb/s up (going through 200gb bandwidth a month was fun).

I doubt they make that much revenue through this tower currently (although without this tower they would not have access to population of ~1200). The entire market in this area might make that much revenue currently (the low figure), but I think most people get the competition since it is $5 cheaper and federal government sponsored.

Why I don't use Firefox:

Firefox continues to render flash images even when the tab is non-active or minimised. Most sites I go on have some form of flash advert. After about 5 sites open, firefox continously uses 100% CPU. I have no such problems with IE 7.

If this were to be fixed, I would not hesitate in switching to Firefox as the only browser I use.

Apparently IE does the same, although IE renders certain flash images better than FF. Those Orange ads cause FF CPU usage to go through the roof, yet not for IE. Adblock should do the trick for now. Back to FF!

Hi. If you dislike advertisements, I'd recommend

http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

It prevents advertisements from connecting to your computer at all (makes adblock obsolete pretty much, and you can browse the web with IE with no ads).

Backup your old hosts file in case you do not like it. :)

Firefox 2.0.0.4 should be out soemtime, RC3 was released a week ago.

The hosts trick works, but can slow down DNS name resolution and can sometimes cause legitmate pages to stop loading as it blocks the "thru-ad" (i.e. one of those advert pages you have to view before reaching the target site). Hosts file is also ineffective with proxy servers (not that I use one)

Adblock works well. I don't care about adverts here and there, but the occasional annoying ones you can do away with entirely with it.

Hmm, I use proxy sometimes but I thought it removed ads. But then I still have adblock+, filterset.g and customize google extensions running, so who knows :P.

The only important issue on my wishlist for Firefox (or any other browser for that matter) is an option to disable sound by default. It should require users to manually enable sound for a certain page before they can hear it. It annoys me when browsing when suddenly a site appears to pop-up some music. An exception list for audio blocking, like the one for cookies, is very welcome too.

This is probably programmable in a plugin, but sadly I don't know enough of Firefox's scripting language to start with it myself (I am already learning to much languages anyway...)
