Slow games to me suck , I don't wanna have to wait two hours to move my dust scout two inches from its current position . But.... on the other hand if you mean have the player cut the game speed down to a lower level I guess that would be some what interesting . Since i've never done it I could not argue with u there . but lagy games , they just suck.

When I have clicked over 20 times and the unit/s have still not responded due to lag or slowness of the game and I say "grrr this sucks!" you are free to interpret it any way you want. I can't stand it when I am trying to make my units move and que up some stuff and I go back to see my units didn't move because I clicked during a lag and it didn't take the command even though they responded with "for the Baron!"

But I do agree when playing campaign mode or co-op I switch the speed down to about 5 or 6 so I can think about my next assault.

when i say "slow" - i don't mean slow the the point where the gameplay "stutters" due to lag.  i just mean slow to the point where everything moves constantly when you click on it, but it just moves at a much slower pace than "normal"

in fact in my slow games, the pace actually LOOKS at lot more NORMAL in terms of how units move.  they move at a speed that you'd EXPECT them to move at in real life.

when i first started playing Emperor and for 1.5 years into it i was playing with a 4MB AGP card.  hence the game would run at this slow speed that i'm talking about. that's how i learned the nuances of Emperor.  eventually i upgraded my GPU and re-learned the game at "normal speed". now after having extensive experience with "slow" and "normal" speed games; i am totally 100% sure that slow games are much more prone to bringing out all the strategic nuances and intricacies that the devs have put into Emperor

anyone who played with me on WOL in the last few days knows what i mean by this slow speed since for the time being i have reverted back to the 4MB AGP card.  what you were feeling in my game was not "lag" - it was the game running slow due to an obsolete GPU

i suggest all Emperor players to try to find and install a second-hand 4MB AGP card and play Emperor with it.  you'll enjoy your games a lot more if you do.

I know, slow games are indeed more fun than fast games..... usually, slow by settings that is ofcourse. I wasn't me who thought of always setting the gamespeed in any game to max. In singleplayer i also play at normal speed.

Fast games requier more strategy and skills, in slow games you can sit there and think of what you will do next, in fast games you need to think and act fast, if you cant control your units in a fast game then that means your mirco sux, if you cant think of a strategy in a fast game then your brains dont work fast enough ;)

In a fast game you need to control your units fast and think of strategies fast wich makes it harder to play with and some ppl who are not so good cant stand fast games, becuz they dont have the skill to mirco fast and think fast.

Hmmm, i find that only partly true. You can micro in fast games, but less... simply because you do not have the time. No matter how fast you are. But fast games are often marked by rushing and everything that is fast. I just find slow games to be more fun, as there you have a little more time to think your strategy over, instead of thinking of your strategy in 10 seconds, otherwise you'll be too late etc.. As a result, slow games are often on a higher level than fast games.

I agree so long as its a clean running slow game due to all having game speed set at 5 or 6 but laggy games are just annoying as you cant control anything right.

Although warskum does have a valid point in real fast games the better BOs win and it does take skill to control all at speed but I think Nav said that at at start of thread.

A slow unlaggy game requires greater tactics and allows more stratergies to be used.

it may seem like everything is so fast that its uncontrollable.. i know what you mean... when i first played at max speed i was like oh my god i cant handle this... but i just kept practicing on that speed.. i even played the computer at max speed for practice.... then ..

slow = better.

Nuff said.

But seriously though, ive had my ass kicked many times by people who insist that rushing at the fastest setting is the best way to win. WIMPS.

Have some honour, challenge someone to a 3-hour-marathon match some time. No rush for the first half hour!  :D ;) ;D

NAv the fact that you cant oesnt means NO ONE can, i can and i know lots of ppl who can, and if you are having a bit problems with microing in fast games then ur micro sux.

Slow games are good, especially with newbies,at least you won't scare the hell out of them, and lightning games get boring after a while,it's like Close Quarters Combat with a Desert Eagle, where only the first shot counts...

Long games are the funnest, but they should be fast as well. In my opinion there should be attacks from very early in the game right through the game so that the combat never lets up and nor does the aggression. Obviously for that kind of game you need 2 sides very closely matched in skill.

Heres how it is NAG, u dont play well enough to defend urself in the early game, thats why you have to quit so much. Maybe you could learn to adapt and play both the long game and the shot game at the same time. If you let a complete noob build for 30 min whatever he wants, he would be hard to kill too. This isnt a real game this is plain stupid. The name of the game is to cripple your opponent until you can get ahead enough to kill him. Maybe you could revise your strats so you can play with the top players of today instaed of the top players of 3 years ago. The came has changed alot. A player that can play both the short game and the long game will always win.

Thats fair enough, but surely the bulk of the gamers on this forum do not make up the bulk of EMP players worldwide?

(note, I am not trying to debunk you.)
