I was "surfing the net" as some like to call it today, when I came across a lovely board called Menzoberranzan. It reminded me that in other message boards there is the option of joining what can be anything from a house, clan, Guild, society, basically a seperated group controlled by one or more leading members who in turn are controlled by the administrator.

And this got me thinking. I know we already have the editing group, Landsraad, moderators, etc. But perhaps it would be interesting to try creating different additional groups. For those of you who need a metaphor, it would be like the departments in an office or the Houses in Hogwarts.

It would also save the trouble over custom titles that people seem to want. Their society/alliance/house/whatever could be their title.

And as for the people in charge... Gob could delegate the responsibility to people he thinks are able to handle it properly. Most likely moderators and perhaps a few Landsraad. These people would then have the ability to block entry to their 'House' and control it as necessary. This would also mean that they became responsible for punishing deviant members by limiting their posting; saving the effort on the part of Gobalopper.

I realise that this is almost definately not an original thread here (Which, come to think of it; probably means that the notion was rejected...), but I just thought I'd suggest it.

The "Nation of Nav" would be a great addition to fed2k. then i would be able to formalize my army. great idea. i'm all for it.

but it sucks if the Mods choose the names and Houses/Cults/Nations available

any leader on this site should be able to make those choices himself, regardless of if he is staff/mod/landsraad. otherwise, there is no point and it's a stupid idea

Like navIGATOR said,"but it sucks if the Mods choose the names and Houses/Cults/Nations available",so if we can choose our own names it would be better but the disadvantage is that there will be at least one house/cult/nation with only one member in it and it would be unfair and bizarre.

No, it's like joining a guild in an online game.

It just makes it more fun.

The worst problem I think of is spam and flame wars because of this... :(

I was thiking more along the lines of "This is for Ordos supporters only." Or "Only if you proove you're responsible."

It kind of goes without saying that any unfair discrimination (rascism, sexism, other isms...) would incur vast wrath from the moderators.

Trust the hamster, silence furry one! ;D

It is a great idea, but would this result in everyone making their own house so it would be like you have your own custom title anyway?

I think it would work if you could choose like one of the dune houses or something.

LONG LIVE HOUSE CORRINO!

I though perhaps the moderators or even Gob himself could start a limited number of groups, say three for starters. And then accept or reject requests for others if the ones that are there prove to be inadequate.

Each one with it's own board perhaps, a representative, a leader, etc. We could put groups against each other in fanfiction, and establish a heirachy of factions according to success, number of members, favour of Gob, etc. And the heigher up the heirachy a faction rises the more influential it becomes, the more people request membership until it either destroys itself from forced

I would like it if the three groups was real Dune houses.

Like Atreides and Harkonnen and so on.

It would greatly boost the Dune feeling here.

Good idea, although I think it would make people go against one another if they are not on the same houses, and people would be recuiting, and it would be messed up.

That's another point. 'Friendly' competition.

Not sure about 'heads.' But spokespeople and perhaps a moderator, yes.

You could run a real technocratic society there, Nyar. :)
