One same job, I've failed the interview for getting it as a pay job, and now I've been offered a chance to do it as a volunteery worker. Really, should I go for it, and get the so called "working experience"?

Get the experience.THey are trying to test your character by telling you to do it volunterily

Or to take advantage of someone who is stupid enough to work without getting paid ;)

Ok, seriously... If you don't need much money, go for it.

I'd recommend that you do it even if you aren't payed. If you do this job voluntarily now, then at the next job you take an interview for, this experience may make all the difference.

Librarian in public libraries. About...500USD per month for the pay job contract, only about 20USD for volunteery work as "transport fee". 72 hours a week, 6 day's work, for 3 months.

Basically what you'll need to do is to warp up new books, provide book borrowing/returning service, put returned books back to shelf, actually...you need not do anything ;D

If I'm going for it, would the experience be useful is finding future jobs? Afterall, librarians seems not to be a popular choice for lon-term jobs...

yes, the experience you get will come in handy when applying for future jobs. No matter what job it is, they will like people which have worked somewhere before.

What questions did they ask that made you fail the job as a librarian ??

Unless you answered on the question what to do with damaged books "Throw them away", instead of "Repair them" I can hardly see how one can fail an interview for that job, or isn't it that easy ?

Go for it! Library jobs help qualify people for administrative careers, secretarial work, management, and organizational skills. A lot of jobs really look for that kind of stuff. Go for it.

hell no. i am speaking from personal experience when i tell you that you do NOT want to do this. if they don't want to pay for you, then they don't respect you. why would you want to work for an employer who does not respect you (and thinks of you merely as a big steaming pile o' dogcrap who is worth nothing other than the free slave labor you provide)

do not do this. find an employer who will respect your talents and pay you fair market value for work you do. don't let yourself be PIMPED --- which is EXACTLY what these guys are trying to do to you! Slavery has been abolished long ago --- don't undermine that Victory by turning yourself into a Voluntary Slave Laborer.

About the interview...well it's more like a joke then an interview. The whole thing took less then 5 mintues. We're interviewed together in groups of 7, and I was asked 2 questions:

1)The library you visit most frequently and your reading habits(In English)

2)How much would a book overdue for 3 days fine you, with 1 day being a public holiday(In Chinese)

Everyone got the wrong answer for the 2nd question, falling into the trap of "public holiday", but I doubt this mistake would be big enough to screw me up...

It could be useful to work for free for a short duration, like 3 months. That way you could put down on your resume/application (or you could bring it up in the interview) that you do volunteer work to support your community. Employers like to see that you are self motivated and do things without expecting a reward. 72 hours a week seems a little steep for volunteer work where they only pay $20 a week for travel expenses. I would try and negotiate maybe 20 hours a week with no travel reimbursement. If they are not flexible when you ask, then I would have second thoughts about wanting to work there.

20 US dollars converted into Hong Kong dollars should be a lot more ain't it?But since ALL is being used in transport[you still to eat right?],don't go for it,unless you can find another job.
