Good for you ex ;) Now I can kick your ass in SC with you knowing that I did much faster ;D

DSL is streamlined bandwidth, most of it is not as fast as cable, but then again cable's speed depends on peaktime, how many people around you are using it, etc.

Is DSL cable?

Nope.

BTW, the speed of your DSL depends on the isp and what type of DSL you have(ADSL, XDSL e.t.c)

The point is that DSL modems have much lower latency issues than Cable modems because your modem on DSL has a direct connection to a huge pipe out of the central office. You get a dedicated line. With cable you are sharing bandwidth with your neighbors. I wish I could get DSL, but I am too far from the nearest central office.

Cable speeds ofthen are higher then DSL speeds for home users. And they don't really care that it's a little unstable. [ or think they don't care untill they have it ]. That besides the point that the distance between you and your provider can't be all that far with DSL, and it can with cable, so DSL isn't available everywhere.

All the rest is usually a matter of marketing.

Of course there is the more expensive, UltraDSL...

I know 8mb up and down from a dedicated VPN connection, offered by BBnet or just 8mb versus a few bites les by Cistron .. . ain't life great :D

Military needs the fastest connections for their supercomputers, so I imagine some connections are faster than we know - just like they have 5 ghz computers probably not-yet-released to the public.

2.5Ghz/sec isn't released for the public as well. It's used in backbones I support for work (okay, a bit public). Like I said, I doubt anyone will have that speed. If someone is aware of speed in connections, you bet it's me (as far as released goes anyway). I also worked for a major company that builds internet hardware, if anyone is aware of things, it's them ;)

It's also a known fact that Intel has already build the "Pentium 5" (sometimes it's usefull to have friends working at customs ;)) The military has most likely faster computers then 5Ghz though...
