Is this the end of the Dune games? The only ones that were really succesful, was Dune 2 and Dune 2000. Emperor did a great work, altough Westwood could've done more on the original game, as well as supporting the community (etc expansion packs, network community). Besides that, the Lynch adaption and the miniseries did a great work, altough not everyone liked them, but anyways. And now we hear these sad stuff about IG and Generations. I'm sure someone will try to develop something, the only question is, will it be good? Will there ever be any really good Dune games, that not only the RTS fans like, but the Dune fans as well?

If you ask me, there's still great potential for a Dune game. Things is, if a company thinks otherwise, nothing will be done. And I'm no programmer, so I can't create one (I would if I could).

I already said it earlier and I wasn't kidding. Create a thread and ask for signatures to support the demand for another dune game (or an expansion). Make sure there are no flames in that thread and ask Gob if he could send it to someone in EAP, because if someone here knows peeps in that company, it's Gob. If everyone would sign, you have a lot of signatures and maybe they'll listen, as you never know now that WW converted in EA..

If you think about it EA wants to do one thing, nake major money. We would all go out and buy dune games, if they are good. Dune games = Us, We = Money for EA. This is exactly how EA should and probably do look at it so they would almost indoubedably make more Dune games.

Also the letter to EA sounds like a good idea so it's got my signature ;D

Actually, Dude_Doc, Dune 2000 was an abysmal failure. Even Emperor did MUCH better than Dune 2000.

And yes, as it has been shown time and time again for 10 years, Dune games are not financially viable. Every Dune game since Dune 2, no matter HOW good (see Emperor) ultimately failed. Why? Because most consumers are just mindless puppets in the hands of corporate advertising. A game only sells if you tell enough people to buy it. Quality is irrelevant...

Even I am working with my friends on one game. I'm giving him thousands of pictures, but he is to introvertial to show me how is doing engine ;D

Yeah, you're probably right. For example, take Quake. Okay, it was one of the major breaktrough because of it's new 3D engine. If you notice, many things in Quake are real 3D. How about Quake 2? Game of the Year? Huh? And Quake 3? Q3 really sucked. Nothing in it was as good or refreshing as Unreal Tournament, and still, they said Q3 won the "Action Game of the Year Award 1999". How the hell? And if you have noticed, they write so much about Doom 3. Every goddamn game magazine there are, you can find something about Doom 3. And you know, how bad and how discusting crappy Doom 3 will be, it will still be No. 1 on the selling lists.

Anyways, Dune 2000 was good in my opinion, like a Dune 2 remake, that is.

Why do you think Doom 3 is going to be bad?

most sequels/prequel games are not as good as the original,(comparing respectivly) just like movies.

an example of a game would be betrayal at Krondor=very good game

betrayal in Antara=not good game

Return to Krondor(actual sequal)= not as good as BAK.

There are more dramatic examples. Earth 2150 must have sold like 12 boxes, of wich 13 were returned to the store.

I agree, but who says there will be no marketing now that they changed to EAP? No is what you have, yes is what you can get :)

I did not say Doom 3 will suck, I only say that nobody knows how it will be, and therefore, can not judge the game before release. Of course I hope it to be good, but why the hype? Just because Doom and Doom 2 did well in their times, it doesn't mean Doom 3 have to be special in any way. What will there be in D3 that will be so revolutionary? The monsters? We have seen those in AvP already. The guns? See Quake, Q2, Q3, Wolfenstein, Ut and UT2003. Oh, the story then? See Deus Ex. The only thing may be the graphics, but who has the computer to get the best resolutions? Maybe 10 out of 6 billion here on Earth, including id Software, in other words, no one. So maybe the AI? Oh yeah, I know their AI. "Locate character, kill him". And so it has been in all goddamn id games since Quake. Monsters always hear everything. They see everything. And they do exactly the same movements they did in previous games. So, what do I want to see? I want, for the very first, see some real story. Not just the same old s_it "human misstake, aliens kills everyone except you, you alone in base, save mankind/get out of base". More "what do the monsters want us?", "whose misstake was it to let these creatures go?" and "how did the monsters get here exactly, and from where?". But because of the "monsters from hell" story Doom have, this thing is already screwed. For the second thing, I want more freedom in the levels. Not just the same goddamn way to exactly that plase. See Deus Ex! In DX, you could choose what it seemed like millions of ways of taking your a_s from start to end, without missing any levels! You can sneak, Arnold, or both. The choice is up to you! Oops, you killed 10 hostages, and the terrorists escaped, so what? The end of the world? Allies lose because of 10 people? No! Life goes on! Exactly the same is DX. So I at least hope they make some more "roads" in Doom 3, not the usual one way in a base that covers half of Europe. And more "new" weapons. They can do better than the old boring CS weapons every goddamn mod and game has. How many times have we toutched the M16, Colt and the usual "Special Forces" grenades??? I'm sick of that. I want to see more imagination in people! Besides, gore isn't scary. It's just discusting. You don't have to see every dead human's guts laying besides him/her everywhere in the goddamn base. In the end you'll puke. Just look at the movie "Alien". Of all movies I have seen, Alien is still the most terrifying movie ever (actually, everytime I have a nightmare, the monster "alien" is always present!). Okay, they had gore, but not the way the Doom 3 screenshots have, with the monster eating guts from a dead dude. *puke*.

This is why I doubt Doom 3. Thanx for reading :P.

I suggest reading the interview in this or last month's edition of Official Xbox Magazine which tells you great stuff about it, limited to the fact that it would ruin it, and you can play it well on the Xbox, and 100% of the people owning xbox's can play it with no problem. :)

That's one problem, you see. Who owns the best playable computer systems? Yes! You need any Windows system installed in order for the game to work! Who owns the X-box? MICROSOFT!!! See, so many people have computers. And at first, they realise that buying an X-Box will heve the requirements done already. But X-Box has a price. First you buy it for 500$, then each game for 100$. So it ends up at your computer anyways. Besides that, you still need to buy the online requirements for X-Box next year. They do make a good earn on this, yes they do. Hell, they had a hell of a good idea of making money :P...

"In your beautiful country, not mine."

Don't complain. Sweden has a socialist-style economy. There are pros. You're just listing one of the cons.

"There are more dramatic examples. Earth 2150 must have sold like 12 boxes, of wich 13 were returned to the store."

Finally, another fan of Earth 2150! Although, the game wasn't that addictive.

i think the dune universe would make for a spectacular MMORPG. problem is that i fear that Dune itself is not a big enough enterprise to ever warrant enough investment capital into such a venture.

I agree. I think everyone has some ideas on how it should look. If all those ideas would be put together, you would have an excellent game. Hence why I gave the idea to gather signatures in on thread where we ask for an MMORPG and have it send off to EAP. If we'd send it, we even might post the ideas as a loyal Dune community.

Again, no is what you have and yes is what you can get...
