It wasn't communism, it was stalinism.

The principles of communism coincide almost perfectly with those of Christianity (except the fact that Marx advocated atheism, but that is not necessary for communism - it's actually counter-productive for a true communist government to be atheist).

The problem is, nobody ever put the true principles of communism into practice. What Lenin and Stalin did was NOT communism.

EdricO, you must see a difference between classic socialism and marxistic communism, only practised. In fact, even Jesus was socialist. He preached equality, but also lowliness. And communists weren't lowly. Marx was a child of his era, influented by Nietzsche. He "cleaned" socialism from God and created communism. Also this negates main idea of socialism, way of life providing instant salvation. Godless communism was an abomination of philosophy, especially left-wing. It became a tool of populists like Lenin, who lured his nation and brought it into 80 years of slavery for little group named Komunistickaja Partija Sovietskogo Sojuza. Altough I'm right-wing I can see that difference easily. Ideas are socialistic, communism is such failed practice.

good words ivik. I agree though that socialism is a good system for christians in small groups. Read the early church fathers and even from the bible and it shows that they lived in socialist communities.

Marx stated in his work that religion was an opium for the masses- priests would help out their wealthy friends by keeping the populace happy with promises about the afterlife.

Believe what you may, but that was the situation back then. Marx was right about a great many things.

He threw the baby out with the bathwater. He only allowed his eyes to see the evil denominations and threw the rest of religion in with them.

<--- my new avatar :)

Well, read before you judge me:

My mother is caught in the cult of mormonism, and I am baptised in like.

But I have disowned all religion, as all religion is corrupt beyond belief.

I do believe 'god' exists, but to as what god is, I don't know, he could just be the last universe inploding, or he could be this divine being, either either, he exists in some way, though I should say 'it' exists.

I am a follower of logic, so it is logic that leads me to belief in God, and not religion.

Im also Gobism (please don't kill me, I had to say it, look at the threads subject, give me this once, I beg of you :'()

Caid Ivik, I agree. You are right about communism, and that's why I don't call myself a communist. I am a christian socialist.

Jacob, you really should get informed before making broad statements like "all religion is corrupt beyond belief". That is just not true.

Maybe it's just me, but the Pope doesn't seem to be in a position to be corrupted... ::)

And just because cardinals and bishops are corrupt, that doesn't give you the right to insult all innocent priests who truly love God and serve their local communities.

There were several cases of corruption in catholicism in the past however. Like when they were building a new church, and they needed money, they actually sold tickets that garantued acess to heaven.

One thing I resent about the catholic church is that they tolerate sex scandals.

1. That was in the Middle Ages, and the tickets were called indulgences. The selling of indulgences was one of the reasons for the Reform...

2. Didn't they remove the offending priests...?
