Acriku
What similes? I don't remember any similies, or any corny ones for that matter. It was a great book that gets you into it immediately, with extreme detail and great battle scenes. I recommend it for everybody IMO
dczx
I took the book back to the library so I can't quote them... I do remember him saying, 'like golden lizards the dragoon gaurds stood in the sun' or something like that... and there were others, can't remember them now though. It did have an excellent beginning though that draws the reader in.
Acriku
I'll have to check that out, I got the audio version as well, so we will see how good that is :D
Ghosty_Square
What the ****, Holtzman is completely ridiculised. He was supposed to be an ingenius scientist whose work nobody understands, not a stupid man anxious to be congratulated for his newest invention. Acriku
We were only told the good things of holtzman in the dune series, and I'm sure Frank had notes about how [hide]egotistical and bigheaded[/hide] Holtzman really is. And it makes sense, he's human after all.
Colonel_Worf
It's obvious Norma Cenva is the real mastermind behind everything. I wouldn't be surprised if she comes up with the Holtzman effect, and he kills her and takes credit.
Acriku
[hide]Holtzman created the equations, Norma created the different usage of it, Holtzman called it the Holtzman Effect, the end.[/hide]
Colonel_Worf
And how you would know this? The only thing that was created in TBJ were glowglobes and shields. Never once a mention of the space-folding Holtzman generators.
Acriku
Because it's in the book lol. In the book Holtzman names his equations that involve the laser effect The Holztman Effect.
Colonel_Worf
Okay, maybe we're thinking about different things...
VigilVirus
Holtzman effect - the shield, which repels all forces that are used against it. Created by Tio Holtzman, not Norma Cenva - he comes up with the equation.Norma was the one who found out about the reaction of laser to shield - this is what Holtzman effect is in the game. But originally, Holtzman effect is the equation of the shield itself.
Acriku
Yep . Indeed. Arrogant Tio may be, but he's an arrogant genius :) But it's always good to have different perspectives (norma). Norma saved many lives that day that she told him to do it on an asteroid, even lives not yet lived.
Timenn
My review:The Butlerian JihadThe book started a little bit bored, the attack on Salusa Secundus isn't so exciting and I know it was meant as an intro, but it could have been done better. But after a while the strong part of the book starts. When Serena Butler has been taken captive by the self-aware robot Erasmus. The philosophy is not bad, and it gives a good impression of the AI in the Butlerian Jihad. Though some things aren't totally correct it is an AI you can agree with. It now becomes clear which characters play a real role in the book and which ones are not so interesting. Some characters annoyed me, like Xavier Harkonnen, Norma Cenva, Selim, Ismael. They were to forced written. But you won't notice that if you pay attention to the cool characters. Like Tio Holtzman, how nice to have an arrogant scientist who is still a geniusAnd a good thing in this book is how you can see the Jihad approaching. And then the book is finished very well. Andrew
read the book in 5 hours? that is fast, i read it in 5 days. i enjoyed it, the writing style reminded me of the other prequel books(for obvious reasons) just as good as the other prequels, but more magnitude because of the machines. a movie would be cool.if you enjoyed the other prequels, read this book! Acriku
If this were to be a movie, there would probably be 90% digital, as it's hard to get a guy in a cymek suit hehe.
Andrew
it doesnt matter, as long as its done. but as long as the graphics are as good as in lotr series it should be ok.

garth
The Butlerian Jihad is my favorite of all the prequels so far.Erasmus is a really interesting character, and I looked forward to every chapter in which he was involved. Trying to figure out what made him tick and how he came to be the way he was was a lot of fun.My favorite quote in the book is from Tio Holtzman after that failed experiment causes the roof of his testing laboratory to crash, killing dozens of slaves and he remarks "At least no one was hurt."I'm looking forward to finding out the origins of House Corrino and what family wins the battle of Corrin to establish themselves as rulers for over 10,000 years. Acriku
Yep Corrino, it was fantastic. I wouldn't have been surprised if the big old man would have charged Tio and ripped him apart after that quote.
Mad Rhetoric
[hide]Do you guys think that the Dragoon guards might become House Corrino?[/hide]
Acriku
[hide]I've never considered it, they do seem powerful, and so far the planet of slaves is still being contained by the dragoon guards. Can't wait to find out. [/hide]
