Am I the only one who hates unit and group caps in RTS games?

I *really* hate unit caps. They totally ruin the dynamics of RTS games. If you are smart enough to have defended yourself long enough to have an abundance of resources, then you should be allowed to reflect that with a ludicrously-huge army. Now that's some good RTSing. :)Playing RTS games with unit caps is the worst. On a similar note, one of the only things I hate more than unit caps is group caps. Like in WC 3, only 12 units per group. That is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOunbelievably annoying. RTS games should not have unit caps or group caps. Especially if the group cap is not really huge like in Emperor 'cause I never need 64 at once - but any group cap below 20 just leads to frustration and bad gameplay.Unit caps and group caps are a curse upon the entire RTS genre.Who else hates unit caps and group caps in RTS games?

hrmm Nav.. i think that yeah it does get annoying, but only being able to control so many units at one time adds to the difficulty and strategy.. what fun is it to use 500 units to destroy a base? where is the fun in over doing it?

I agree with naveros. The fun is building and placing of troops. Also if there is no unit cap the enemy has the same odds as you to build a huge force. Now there is some need of unit capping. Say if you had one guy with a huge force and you had one. It could really slow down the computers and block up bandwidth of information through modems and whatnot. Also group caps are annoying as well. I could see what duneguy means though.

Group capping is annoying, but essential to stay away from becoming the DukeNukem of RTS. If you stay long enough to get a lot of resources, then you should be good enough to assign HOTKEYS to groups, so it's almost as if you have control of everything. Wow, ain't I a stinker?

think??? Why would he want to do that when he plays an RTS? ::)

He likes his games where things can be predicted (always) and one single strategy always works.....unit caps make that harder for him.

good point. But what fun is a game when you know what will happen when you do something. I like suprises. ;D

Unit caps arnt that bad. I dont need a massive army to beat o45 ;) i just need a massive tank army to blow his bunker walls. Anyway unit caps arnt that bad they keep the slowdown down and add a bit of ~Strategy~ to the game.

Just hope and pray you don't need more than 120 units to get the job done, or yer screwed...

Some of you idiots can never be pleased...

First you b|tch about people camping in there bases and building 6000 mino's. Now you're whining about upkeep and unit caps! Guess what my hard-headed friends...upkeep is implemented so you will always be going on the offensive and not stockpiling 6000 units. Unit cap is there so you can't just turtle around, and it also prevents you building too many units, and causing a laggy game. And incase you didn't notice, when people started getting over 100 units in emperor, the game almost always got laggy and out-of-sync. So in conclusion to you whining, hypocritical saps, I would like to say...

Good point Razorox, These types of threads need to stop...If you don't like the game, return/sell/just don't play it.BTW Razorox, all those blank lines were NOT necessary...

Hey guys, maybe we can start a rally or something...to get these fools banned! ;DDuke: The extra lines are there for effect. I thought it was a nice touch...and next time, try and get my name right, capice? ;)

Well hell, I thought Razor's post was just fine...even the extra lines. As a matter of fact, that post is the only one that was really needed in this entire thread. He took what everyone was saying, dressed it all up in fancy language, and then shoved it down Nav's throat. To that, I say

well done.

well o45....you could have expanded like I did. Whare did you think i got all that $$$$$$$? You could have taken scandanavia..or western africa....but...nooooooooooo...... you just decied to put as many bunks in italy as you posibly could....i think i only lost about 15-20 of 45 tanks due to those bunks. Expansion is the key. man thats whare the money is. I had everything east of the rine. South of scandanvia and east of algires. thats when the fun starts. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmk?
