Who does really use the 'my documents'

Yes, I was wondering, but who does really use the 'my documents' and 'my images' etc, from windows, when you have it I mean :P. I always find it very very irritating, when I am saving somethings, where does the dialog start?? Yes in that damn folder, removing won't help >:(.

So, now I was wondering if there ARE people who uses them, and I don't mean for temporary files or something then

I dont use my pictures. I use my documents all the time. so far I have a total of 453 documents in there. most of them poetry. I think microsoft is trying to make things easier and most of the time it works. we should give them a break. its a pretty damn good o.s.

Nope, never ... ..

You know there are virusses out there that "go directly" to that folder.

On some of the nertworks I'm at the "my documents" folder has been compleately been re-directed to the users part at the main server, so doc's are automatically stored there and not on the comp itself. When it's been used this way, I do use it.

I used to use the crap out of it on my old computer, had everything in it. But since I got the XP box I haven't really used it that much. Except "My Pictures", everything I squeeze from my digital camera goes there automaticly.

I use the my images folder for my screensaver. Funny story about that, i used My Documents until i installed Windows XP. As it turned out, XP deleted My Documents and all of its contents without prompting me first, and i lost everything. So I don't use the standard folders anymore.

Don't worry about that TMA_1, I'm covered for that. ;)

Just wanted to point it out.

Well, Microsoft automatically thinks that you use that folder, so all Microsoft Software searches in the my documents folder first. And I like a little bit of organisation in my data folder. So I hate the my documents. You can't reach it also when you are logged in as another user

"You can't reach it also when you are logged in as another user"

I prosume you use XP, but it should do the trick for any NT, Mill, XP and any UNIX version.

You can give other [ the other ] users the right to view [ and mayby even edit ] the directory. And then place a shortcut in the other users "my documents" [ or any other ] directory.

yes but my doc... and program files... messes up the whole Machine!!!
Sorry but I doubt that. They are just dir's, uncapable and unable to mess up anything. The reg. entries are not enough either to screw up anything. It's usually the user [ or software ] that "screws up a computer".And why should you delete it ? If you redirect the shortcut on your desktop to your own folder / directory / HD it could easely be usefull. And you won't see the "my documents" anywhere else after you are using your computer. Deleting it only directs your attention to it and will make it come back. Just ignore it if you don't like it and stop complaining . ...
