The front page directs to a weirdly edited version of duneiverse. No new news has been posted in years (there has been news, books ect)


What's going on?

I don't think there is too much happening with Dune any more, so a news page would be quite empty and useless.

Actually, yes, that's a good idea. One would think that for a site that is called the "First Ever Dune 2000 Site" it's a kind of noblesse oblige to post news about Dune 2000 mods, maps, tournaments and whatnot.

Someone who follows the developments in Dune 2000 modding and other events could take over the charge of the news section I suppose. Any volunteers?

Hmm.. i would like it.. but my network using time is very varied and sometimes zero...

It doesn't have to be regular, just some more or less frequent updates would be nice.

If you agree, hopefully someone of the admins will provide you with the necessary permissions.

Well, to answer the original question, this site has always been more about the Dune games than anything else, and obviously there haven't been any new Dune games in years.

We're certainly not about to "move on" - neverrrr! :) - but for most of us old-timers who are still here, the community has become an end in and of itself. For example, I will always be here, but not for any reasons related to Dune. Not any more.

Having said that, I don't know why the main page redirects to the Duniverse list, and I certainly don't think it should. If it should redirect to anything, it should redirect to the forums. But maybe we can go back to updating it with news after all. The idea to re-focus it on editing news is excellent. Even one news update per month would be a huge improvement. Let's talk to Gob and get a news update permission for Aqib!

Hello - I just discovered this site.  I greatly enjoyed playing Dune 2000 many years ago (one of my favorites - clean and easy to master)  and I hope to introduce my sons to the game through this online version.
I am no technical expert on "modding" or other arcane aspects of online hosting - I just love the game.
So how does a gamer with no prior experience in online versions of an old PC game become knowledgeable enough to actually play a game with his sons and others?

I think that the guys at the Dune 2000 forums will help you out with how to engage in online play. Not sure if this will cover all your needs but you're welcome to ask questions there :)

This forum seems dead..

No dune based activities..

Someone wants to do something with dune worrh something..

Make a game game.. All forum members together..

Atleast do something..

Dune should and shall never wipe away from the face of earth..

After I went for my exams it seems this siye has seriously few updates..

I still check it out regularly, but I'm more of a Dune II guy, y'know. With the OpenDune project and the reimplementation as Dune Dynasty, the research on Dune II is kinda, well, completed :P

It is true, there has been a decline again of activity.

 

I noticed some one's feel. And even though I reacted with an altered meme. I hope the message was clear too.

 

Most members only read. They don't post themselves. And those who post have the feeling they are talking to themselves.

 

 

If it comes to making dune games.

Well, I still hold in my heart. The possibility of making a Dune version of my board game.

But the main game is not finished yet (child friendly). My problem is my own art.

Although, terrain is less of a problem now. It takes a lot of time, which I don't have currently.

 

 

That has give me an idea:

Can't we have a MMO text based game of dune?

One based on the games. (because I can't see how the books can be put into a text based game)

 

We all know ogame, right? Make something similar, but then with turrets, tanks, infantry etc.

 

and this forum can be used as a base for discussion regarding that dune game.

(Regarding combat mechanics in a text based game; I got a bit of experience. The rules, not the programming)

Why not spice it up a little bit..

I have been out learning RPGs..

So why not make a Dune RPG..

I have a good lot of experience in it..

If you guys help in making it i'll be glad..

I'm active on RPG Maker forums now-a-days..

We need new game or hollywood movie to wake dune up. Otherwise dune univers much more better than populer scifi kults but no one working about new stuff. Ive read first book when im 13 yo im 28 now, ppl like me newer gona forget about dune. But total of new generation dven dont know what is dune.
