SAND
This is a very rare thing to discuss but a very interesting topic to. Have you ever thaught all the existense around us would come to an end in what way as every thing has to come to a conclusion. What do you think would put an end to our solar system or the universe or atleast the earth? I will provide you three choices here choose any one of them and give reasons why you choosed that open as the worlds end and if you have your own idea then pleae feel free to put you thaughts. Alright the options go like this:-1-A dimensional portal would open and tons of aliens would be spread in the universe but also that portal would suck in all the galaxies!2-Sun would explode taking our galaxy with it!3-A world war would put an end to us!What are your thaughts? SandChigger
Don't mind the lack of response, they're mostly all on the other side of the planet and probably sleeping or busing being naughty right now.Let's see....(1) is just silly. Read a science book or two and watch less silly TV.If you had done more of that before now, you'd also know (2) is silly: our sun is way too small to explode on its own, and even if it could and did, it wouldn't destroy the whole galaxy.(3) is the most likely way our world will end. Somewhat evolved primates + things that go boom = a very bad idea

Tatar Khan
Our Sun can go supernova and destroy the solar system however, we will be dead long before that because our sun before going super nova would grow and eat up everything up to Mars's orbit. Black hole can come around and eat us up.Nuclear exchange won't kill us example of that is the fact that some will survive than it would be the game Fallout for real.Religious prophecy of Armageddon will come around. XaarKhan
Likely the human will be the cause of the destruction. However the universe changes and humans do also, what has been destroyed can return changed. But the future is a variable unknown to all of us, we don't know what (un)pleasant surprises awaits us.So let's just enjoy today and tomorrow, and leave the end of the world to someone else. TMA_1
our sun is too small to collapse and go supernova. it will probably go nova, leaving behind a small white-dwarf cinder of itself
SandChigger
Thank you, TMA-1.(I'm a little fuzzy on the final bits: does a G-type star always nova at the end of the red giant stage? Anyway, BILLIONS AND BILLIONS of years away.)There will most assuredly NOT be any humans like us left when the Sun swallows the Earth in a few billion years. (Actually, the Sun is growing hotter all the time. Sometime between 500 million and 1 billion years from now it's going to get too hot around here for all but the most resiliant extremophile life forms, so we're either going to have to move outward or ... move the Earth. ;) ) But I'd rather not rule out the possibility of our having one or more descendent species out there somewhere.I think Carl Sagan and another astronomer did a simulation showing that it would be possible to colonize the habitable parts of the galaxy using just STL generation ships in a few hundred million years (or was it a billion...will have to look for the reference). Naturally evolution would continue over that period of time and we'd end up with various human species spread across the galaxy. (Vive la difference? ;) )Sorry, but people who crap themselves over Armageddon and such silliness really do suffer from a lack of imagination and an excess of gullibility. Start using your own head already. Or lie down and die and get out of the way. ::)
alchemi2
Well mankind has the advantage over other species to adapt our environment to suit our needs rather than just adapting as a species to the environment BUT I believe it is that arrogance that will be our eventual downfall.Mankind desecrates the planet and other lifeforms , which could eventually lead to our own destruction as we constantly pollute and depopulate the planet.Between wars and natural disasters, which will create further wars as we Scrabble for habitable land and remaining resources we may just cause our own extinction. veK
memorable quote from terminator 2:John Connor: We're not gonna make it, are we? People, I mean. The Terminator: It's in your nature to destroy yourselves.so to answer your question: answer 3Â ;)
jeff2429
Aren't we gonna find out in 2012? ::)But as already said, the nature of mankind.
gunner154
The Necrons will rise from beneath and exterminate all the living. All that happens does not concern the human world since humanity would be wiped out.Seriously? Answer 3 too.
exatreide
The Necrons will rise from beneath and exterminate all the living. Kirby Gotenks absorbed
If the sun went supernova, it would likely destroy the solar system, not just up to mars, it is constantly growing, so when the sun does go "boom", it would probably destroy the solar system (or the galaxy maybe?)
Khan
No... Just no...The worst our sun will do is, as stated burn up to mars. We'll be dead way before that though.
SandChigger
Sigh. Science education must be at an all time low all around the world, huh?We as individuals will all be dead, of course. But I've a hope there'll still be a pocket or two of socialists left out there somewhere! ;D
Kirby Gotenks absorbed
Nope, were just studying better things than "How much would the sun destroy if it exploded", makes sense does it not? Such irrelevant information serves nearly no use in society or in the class room.
SandChigger
There is such a thing as knowledge for its own sake.Or to satsify the basic curiousity that most people seem to feel about the world we live in and the universe it whirls about through. But going through life with a narrow little priggish attitude about things is always an option, of course.
Kirby Gotenks absorbed
There is also such a thing as irrelevant knowledge. And when I said "If the sun went supernova, it would likely destroy the solar system, not just up to mars, it is constantly growing, so when the sun does go "boom", it would probably destroy the solar system (or the galaxy maybe?)"I said when the Sun DOES go boom (ie. not necessarily now), it would have grown enough to destroy the solar system. exatreide
There's knowledge that you should know before saying stuff..so you don't appear retarded ;)
TMA_1
after all of the nuclear fuel is spent, it probably will go nova. and will probably spread to a few lightyears in absolute size, before the diffuse elements of itself begin to coalesce into various intersteller objects. by no means will it even leave a small mark on the galaxy. Though it will definitely effect nearby stars.I am probably wrong on a lot of this, but this is what I have gathered from the little knowledge I do have. waaay simplified it all. The evolution of a star is a fascinating and complex thing.
SandChigger
I can't find any indication that our sun is expected to go nova or BOOM.At the end of its red giant phase there will be a series of smaller explosions that will cast off the outer layers, leaving a white dwarf. The Earth will be long gone before that, though. What was the point of this thread, again?Oh yeah. It's gonna end in fire.
Kirby Gotenks absorbed
No, why would it end in fire? There's knowledge that you should know before saying stuff..so you don't appear retarded ;)Uh... Thanks?
XaarKhan
Let's just hope mankind will be able to solve all those problems by then and we wont have to think about the world comming to an end.Luckily enough, I can almost definitely say that it wont be my problem, however that doesn't mean it doesn't concern us.We should do what we are able to do, and that is to live and respect others, by going through daily life, mankind will advance automatically through daily advances. Newbiezilla
Whatever state the sun would be in after going nova, we know that life (at least as we know it) could not survive. But, thats not something to worry about for many generations.Whatever will be the cause of our eventual extinction, it is highly likely human stupidity will be at its core.
