I'd like to ask you to list the video game series that have more than three titles (sequels, prequels and whatnot) that you know. Platform and genre don't matter. Thanks :)

Do you want lists, or should people just give a few entries so you can add them to your list?

As far as I can remember, in no particular order:

Civilization series:

Civilization I to IV (main series)

  Call To Power I & II(spinoff series)

Heroes of Might and Magic series:

Heroes of Might and Magic I to IV (Published by 3DO)

Heroes of Might and Magic V (Published by Ubisoft, but same concept as Heroes I to IV)

Grand Theft Auto series:

Grand Theft Auto (orginal) + London 1969, London 1961

  Grand Theft Auto II

Grand Theft Auto III series (GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas) (3D)

Grand Theft Auto IV (in development)

Need for Speed series:

Need for Speed I to... more than seven. All by EA AFAIK.

The Elder Scrolls series:

The Elder Scrolls I to IV (main series) with each a significant development time.

The Elder Scrolls spinoffs (Console/Portable games)

Commander Keen series:

Commander Keen series: Invasion of the Vorticons, 1 to 3

Commander Keen series: Goodbye Galaxy 4 & 5

Commander Keen stand alones: Keen 6 (Aliens ate my Babysitter) and Keen Dreams.

Prince of Persia series:

  Prince of Persia 1 & 2 (Broderbund)

Prince of Persia 3D (Learning Company)

Prince of Persia Sands of Time trilogy (Ubisoft)

What you need the list for?

I've got some vague ideas about the concept of video game series, but I think I'll come up with something to discuss. Generally, I'm interested in the dynamics of game worlds development, the relations between games etc.

Could you please specify, if possible, the prequel/sequel/parallel story/anything else status of the games in the series? E.g. the six titles in Prince of Persia are actually two different trilogies. And whether the titles are all of the same genre or not, too.

I was going to just list all of these from memory, but then I thought 'No, I'm really too lazy for that' and went to Wikipedia.

Tomb Raider:

"The following versions have been released so far, listed in chronological order:

Tomb Raider (1996) - Sega Saturn, PlayStation, PC, N-Gage, Pocket PC, Mac

Tomb Raider: Unfinished Business (1998) - gold edition of Tomb Raider, PC, Mac

Tomb Raider II (1997) - PlayStation, PC, Mac

Tomb Raider: The Golden Mask (1999) - gold edition of Tomb Raider II, PC, Mac

Tomb Raider III (1998) - PlayStation, PC, Mac

Tomb Raider: The Lost Artifact (2000) - PC - standalone bonus title comparable to the "Gold" editions of I & II

Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation (1999) - PlayStation, Sega Dreamcast, PC, Mac

Tomb Raider: Chronicles (2000) - PlayStation, Sega Dreamcast, PC, Mac

Tomb Raider (2000) - Game Boy Color

Tomb Raider: Curse of the Sword (2001) - Game Boy Color

Tomb Raider: The Prophecy (2002) - Game Boy Advance

Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness (2003) - PlayStation 2, PC, Mac

Tomb Raider: Legend (2006) - PlayStation 2, Xbox, Xbox 360, PC, PSP, GameCube

Tomb Raider: Legend (2006) - a 2D version for the Game Boy Advance

Tomb Raider: Legend (2006) - a 2.5D version for the Nintendo DS

Tomb Raider: Anniversary (2007) - PlayStation 2, PC, PSP, and Wii

Upcoming:

Tomb Raider 8 - for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

In addition to these titles, several games have been released for mobile ExEn/Java devices:

Tomb Raider: The Osiris Codex (2003)

Tomb Raider: Quest for Cinnabar (2004)

Tomb Raider: Elixir of Life (2004)

Tomb Raider: Puzzle Paradox (2006)

Tomb Raider: Legend (2006)

Lara Croft's Poker Party (to be released)

An interactive DVD was released by Bright Entertainment under license from Eidos in 2006, called Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Action Adventure. The game takes advantage of standard DVD player audiovisual capabilities, and the remote control. It has puzzle and action elements, while the story is based on The Angel of Darkness."

I can think of other titles, but none with quite so many games under their belt.

You forgot Might and Magic; the first person "version" of Heroes of Might and Magic!

The main series of Might and Magic:

* Might and Magic: The Secret of the Inner Sanctum (1986; Mostly sprites. No real 3d.)

* Might and Magic II: Gates to Another World (1988; Mostly sprites. No real 3d.)

* Might and Magic III: Isles of Terra (1991; Mostly sprites. No real 3d.)

* Might and Magic IV: Clouds of Xeen (1992; Mostly sprites. No real 3d.)

* Might and Magic V: Darkside of Xeen (1993; Mostly sprites. No real 3d.)

o Might and Magic: World of Xeen

* Might and Magic VI: The Mandate of Heaven (1997; 3d world, but sprite characters, software 3d. Good graphics) <- MY FAVOURITE!

* Might and Magic VII: For Blood and Honor (1998; 3d world, sprite characters, hardware 3d. Good graphics.) <- A VERY GOOD SECOND PLACE!

* Might and Magic VIII: Day of the Destroyer (2000; 3d world, sprite characters, hardware 3d. Not very good graphics at that time.)

* Might and Magic IX (2002; All 3d. Not very good graphics at that time.)

Other games in the series:

* Crusaders of Might and Magic. (A third person, 3d adventure game, I think. Never played it.)

* Legends of Might and Magic. (Online game. It was initially planned as an MMORPG, but ended as a largely ignored online FPS. A catastrophy.)

* Warriors of Might and Magic. (Two PS2 games were produced. I've played both. Most enjoyable!)

All of the above were developed by 3DO.

A 14th game came out last fall:

Might and Magic: Dark Messiah. (A 3d RPG, almost kick-in-the door-style. Quite enjoyable. Good graphics.)

Regarding Heroes of Might and Magic:

Let's not forget King's Bounty and King's Bounty 2! Those were quite like the HMM games, made by the same producer, and very, very good!

Yes. They had, as far as I know:

Magic: The Gathering (based on the cards itself. AI will know how to play Magic too)

Magic: The Gathering - Spells of the Ancients (expansion pack)

Magic: The Gathering - Duals of the Planeswalkers (combination of the above two, plus some bonus features)

Magic: The Gathering - Battlemage (crappy game)

Magic: The Gathering - Battlegrounds (3D, and very very unlike the actual card game)

My favourite is obviously Duals of the Planeswalkers. Magic: The Gathering features an adventure game in which you start out as a lowly wizard with a simple deck and you go out and duel other wizards. Defeating them will let you win cards, and you can buy cards. Plot is dull - to stop some wizards from casting some spell that will destroy Shandalar, but exploring dungeons and going for the big wizards does make the game very interesting.

I'll add one more game to the list: Neverwinter Nights!
