I'm curious as a benchmark, if you play a single skirmish game, fishers, 10K, 7AI, Hard.

How long does it take you to win the game?  (Hark/Ordos/ATR)

Do you ever lose? (Like if your starting point is the middle left rock)

Personally I'm averaging about an hour with Atr, and about 45 minutes with Ordos.  Seemingly I kill about 1000 units, and lose about 100.

Well this is probably going to sound ridicules coming from me, cause I usually don't do real well online, but I do good vs AI. But I play that a good bit on my laptop when I'm traveling, just to get better on fishers. The time sounded high to me so I just did one, Took me 23 minutes. Seemed about like always.

I play Atr. (always)

10k

7 AI- ord, hark, atr, ord, hark, atr, ord, on Hard Attacker

All subhouse- ? (random)

I got the 3 0clock base (East)

One thing you didn't mention though, do you use air? Because the way I play this scenario is always the same, survive the rush, build drones, kill harvs of 1/2 the AI. in this case it was the ones going towards the south. While I'm Droning, build up units and start marching. drone the AI then march in, After killing them, drop a con yard, factory, and sard. barracks, that way you reinforcements don't have so far to march.  Doing this I don't ever remember loosing vs AI on Fishers, Because once you got the 2 bases on either side of you dead it takes the AI so long to get at you. I just wish I would do that well playing teams, LOL.

I think a better Benchmark for fighting AI might be- Spice bowl, 3 AI on hard attacker. Then it's fast ground fighting, and you must defend your base and your spice at the same time. You barely have time to build drones till 2/3 the way thru the game. This scenario is more like "ohh well, screw this," abort, restart- "well, that didn't work either" abort- restart, etc. lol

You don't, that's why I only drone 1/2 of them, cause whoever you drone, I guarantee the AI will kill  whoever you weaken. You just let the AI do 1/2 of your work, thats why I like spice bowl or knife fight better for AI.

Not sure how long it takes me cuz I never timed it. But when I do that I usually put random and I can say that I kill em faster with hark than any other house. As far as losing...can't remember the last time I lost on those setts. Key for me is to make sure I protect my spice against leeches and than I just work out in both directions from my original base. I usually end up killing 5 of the 7 AI while the other 2 get killed by other AI.

Erm, does it only seem to me that this is a silly benchmark becuase everyone is doing different setts, specifically the number of AI and difficulty...?

How about laying out the setts explicitly at the beginning ? Living world, sw etc...

Also, game speed would have a quite big impact on the game time as a game on speed 4 would be a lot slower then someone on speed 7 or 8...

not only that but a 3ghz machine at speed 8 is faster than a 633mhz computer at speed 8.

My computer is so fast on speed 8 that i could probably win in 5-7 min with hark.

My point exactly. This shouldnt be measure in time, but measured in some other way. Does emp report the amount of frames passed or something ? Can something like that be used anyway ?

Hmm I didn't realize that Emperor was a clock based game.  Figured (as long as you met the specs) that 8 was an 8.

your such a idiot!

Look who's talking ! "you're" ...

8)

But yeah, it is, so lets work out a better benchmark. Either that or I overclock my PC to 10Ghz and pwn you all with a time of 2 mins  :P

How could you not know, your such a idiot!

Simple, I generally play Emp on the similar speed computers.  I've read many posts stating xyz happens in pdq minutes; yet I've never heard the "that doesn't matter because its all about the speed of your PC"

well, a strange idea, duno if it works coz i dont know how much the ai use random when he produce units.

but u could count all kills. ur own and the kills of the ai, than u substrakt ur looses, and finaly u have a number of units wich the ai has produced. the longer u play, the more kills u count.

the problem is, that i dont know if the ai stop producing when he has enough or not, and the second is, when u kill a building, and he get a chance to replace it, it will cost him time and units.

well, crazy i know

Good idea, but I doubt it would be accurate enough.

I was wondering if the number of frames would be useable. There are rpograms that can show that, and a slow computer would have less frames used then a fast computer. So I think it would adjust for crap computers and take into account that they would give different results from the rest of us normal lot :P Joking.

Seriously though, does any one have any real experience of using frame counters ? Fraps is one I think...

This is silly, other than fending off leeches and protecting your spice it's pretty much pwnage..sooner or later. But doing this sort of skirmish, I usually make some engies and start taking shit as I get to it also. Never really payed attention to the amount of time it takes.

Ok,Been a long time since I`ve played, but I recall Emprworm or was it Brennq once challenge people in this scenario:

Fisher

10K

Sard+Fremen for all AI`s.( 7 of them).You choose houses.

The clue here was not how fast you beat them , but with with the less amount of spice + most kills.

That is a tough benchmark is`nt it?

To prove it take screenies before and after the game. Of course there is a chance you can cheat but would you?

I can`t remember where the topic are but you could try anyway..
