Well, we all saw it coming. He was a significant pope. The first non Italian to take the Holy See since 4 centuries and one of the longest rulers of the church. Rest in peace, John Paul II.

I'm not a Catholic. I'm not religious. I'm not even a nice person. But I am saddened by the news that the Pope has passed on. He was... an inspiration. Take that as you will. On the other side of the coin, it is good that he is no longer suffering.

A brillant man.

His conservative stance on Vatican II made it much less drastic in many potentially bad changes for the church. At the same time though he helped with other cardinals to destroy the evil docterns like the jews guilt for christs death, which was really just covered anti semitism.

Not only this but in his long reign as pope he did so much. a pivitol example was during the solidarity movement during the 80s in poland. I bet there are others out there that know a lot more than me about it, I would let them elaborate.

Even I, who have some docternal issues towards the catholic church, respect the hell out of John Paul.

Goodbye Holy Father, though not Catholic, I held you in the highest of respects as a figure of morality, of peace, and of faith.  There were times, I teetered on the brink of losing faith, and it was your example, or in one case a book you had written, that kept me from falling into the abyss.  I will miss you, selfishly as many others also do, but I am happy for you.

As the sun rises over Vatican City now on CNN, I know that you stand in the presence of the Son of God, our savior Jesus Christ.  I know, that this day, you are in Paradise, and you deserve it.  We all hope that your teachings, and your memory will not be tarnished by politics, but will be used to affirm the faith of Christians, and to give faith to those who had none.

In Nomine Patris,

Et Fili,

Et Spiritu Sancti,

Amen.

I think in this case it's normal. Remember, he's the spiritual leader of a billion catholics. The attention he receives at his death is a tribute to his significance, and a sign that his church is still alive and kicking.

A good man, I can't ignore. His time has come. I also can't ignore the one scene from Eurotrip with the Pope, a funny one at that  :-X

Pope was a peaceful man. He wanted what the majority of the population of world wanted, that is to stop use of religions as a political weapon. Now that he is dead I wonder what kind of politics would the ****** play to gain control and use the Catholic Church for their own reasons.

It was definitely worth staying up for. (4 to 7 in the morning here.)  The Funeral Mass was beautiful and huge...I do not think I will see its like again in this lifetime.  The way the gospels blew in the wind and shut during Communion. Seeing all the mourners there...the robes of the Cardinals and the Eastern Patriarchs flowing in the wind...and seeing the religious dignitaries of so many faiths represented.  I am not Catholic, but I am moved.

It was a big show, and most of the TV stations we have here broadcast it. But he always know how to use media, so he deserved it. I would be jealous for his eternal glory...

EX DEO NASCIMUR,

IN JESUS MORIMUR

ET CUM SPIRITUM SANCTUM REVIVISCIMUS
