Which antivirus?

My Norton seems to not eliminate any virus, it just send it to quarintine. So which antivirus really eliminate the virus?

My personal preference is AVG Anti-Virus.  It's free, and it does a better job than any other anti-virus software that I've ever come across.  Of course, there are others out there, but I would suggest giving this one a try.

yeah, norton doesnt really do a very good job at removing most viruses. It usually detects them, and then tells you it cant delete them anyway.  Or you have to go through some really annoying process like runing it in safe mode (which takes frigen forever!) and deleting them.  I would suggest going with Mcafee or Dragoon's suggestion

Next to that, Norton home editions are horrible on your computers performance. If you want Norton use the corporate edition. Which supprisinly is better then the home versions and does find more exploids and viri.

Next to that. AVG, Sophos or McAfee.

I use PC-cillan, never had a prob with it or virus for a few years now.

Yeah, I installed Norton 2004 on a computer that was just formatted. (Win 98 p3 800mhz, 128 mb ram) and it takes about 30 seconds longer to load windows. Thinking of uninstalling it and putting AVG on it.

What good is security if your computer runs extremely slow with the antivirus software?

omg, you people never heard of NOD ? NOD32, the bestest ever AV thingy. It always wins the independant Virus Bulletin Awards for 100% detection and removal. (I sound like an ad, but no my account to Fed2k hasnt been stolen, I just like NOD so much). It is extreamly fast, uses hardly any system resources. Only thing is they tend not to be the innovators of new ideas, like when office Docs scanning came out, they were well behind in implementing their own version. As for scanning IM, I think they now do.... I think.

But when it comes to kicking virus butt, it owns. I have used McAfee, Norton and Computer Associates (which I remember was a rebranded AV from another company...).

At least check out their free evaluation version from www.eset.com.

I found that when I was looking for AV for work, and now I recommend that above others.

Any are better than nothing, I just hate Norton due to packing a bazillion programs in one and hogging my system. Never heard of that one Erj.

Check it out, its really good. AS for AV systems generally, they seem to be bundling all sorts of bits on, spyware and other bits.

I had AVG. It was pretty good but it didn't detect all viruses. In the test it was pretty good. But not the best at detecting. Now I use Symantec Anti virus. It seems to detect more virusses and it works for me.
