On average, there are more males than females online. Of these, more males are likely to search for, and find, a dune site than females. Therefore, it is unsurprising that Fed2k is mainly males. Furthermore, Dune is technically Science Fiction - which also seems to attract more males than females. Now while very little of dune is the SciFi, even so, the classification means it ends up with more male readers than female. Likewise those attrracted to dune via the games or films.

Some internet polls in the beginning of this month suggested that there are equal or more females online as males. The number of females online has increased in the last years and now they seem to be equall. Due to the introduction of cable and DSL computers ar online 24-7 and you don't have to connect manually. This could be a reason why a lot of woman who are at home most parts of the day now use the internet. And ofcourse you get familliar with computers at a younger age nowedays. So the internet isn't something stricly for "special" groups anymore.

But the subject, "is Dune a male thing ?".

Havn't got a clue :)

Saying things like, 'is dune a male thing' is going back to the days when they were counted as a lower specie, like when they couldn't vote. To me, nothing is a male or female thing, just what people prefer.

There are many things for men, and for women, but it doesn't mean you have to restrict them to one. Dune is Dune is Dune is Dune...is Dune. Dune>Duke>Luke - Starwars? Anyways, women and men are too ungeneral to decide if one would like it more than the other.

Exactly what I thought. Exept that Dune.Duke.Luke. Star wars thing. I tell ya, people these days blabber on like nothing.

There is not a hint of Herbert being sexist, he gives the Bene's powerful abilities, he also lets it be a woman to write a book about Muad'Dib, etc.

But how come all the good units are male, like SARDAUKAR and FREMEN!!!!!!  Everything else is either controlled by men or big ugly aliens (IX).

Read the entire Dune series Arbites not one or two books in the Dune Chronicles. The video game can be a misrepresentation sometimes of F. Herbert's Duniverse. In God Emperor of Dune Leto II even has an all female army.
