DukeLeto Posted June 15, 2003 Posted June 15, 2003 Does anyone play, or have played in the past, the original Unreal Tournament? I just got is from a friend, and all I have to say is WOW! This is one amazing game! Excellent graphics, terrific gameplay, and a wonderful selection of weapons. Although the plot isn't much...like, none at all. but the single player is still fun, regardless.I was just playing some practice games. Hehe, I love 16 player insta-gib on the map Oblivion. Blood everywhere! ;D(As a note, this make the second M-rated game I own...the other being Enemy Territory.)
Vanguard3000 Posted June 15, 2003 Posted June 15, 2003 I really like that game. It's a hell of a lot better than UT2K3. The Rocket launcher can be used in so many ways! Have you tried the Phobos Base yet? That level is so fun with low grav, runes, and exploding ammo boxes.Did you get the Game of the Year edition, with the ChaosUT mod and runes?
DukeLeto Posted June 16, 2003 Author Posted June 16, 2003 No, unfortunately, the reson he gave me the original UT is because he had bought GOTY. However, I downloaded all of the "bonus packs", so it does have Runes. I like the Rune of Vengence(?) the best. >:D
exatreide Posted June 16, 2003 Posted June 16, 2003 can wyona play it?550 mhz64 mb ram16 meg TRI Fu*king Star Graphics card?
DukeLeto Posted June 16, 2003 Author Posted June 16, 2003 The graphics card is a little iffy, but if you keep the graphics down, you should be fine. :)
exatreide Posted June 16, 2003 Posted June 16, 2003 it set the graphics for the turny demo on medium. will it to the same if i play the full game?
GhostHunter Posted June 16, 2003 Posted June 16, 2003 Err...Staying on low would be a good concept..Ah yes, Unreal Tournament, oh man did I have fun with this game. Unfortunaly, I no longer have it installed so I can't frag all y'all.
Vanguard3000 Posted June 16, 2003 Posted June 16, 2003 yeah, the Vengeance rune was pretty good. The best thing to do though is to get the Redeemer in Phobos base, and jump over the hole in the roof (with low grav), then fire the nuke straight down. You survive; everyone else dies. Muaha etc.
Caid Ivik Posted June 16, 2003 Posted June 16, 2003 What dare you have said about 16 MB cards? I had an 8 MB ATI and I could play UT without any slowering!I recommend team deathmatch on Godlike with maximally lowered wingmen stats. It's like race then 8)
Cyborg Posted June 16, 2003 Posted June 16, 2003 I've played Unreal Tournament very, very much. It's still one of my favourites since I got it in 1999, I think.I have the GOTY edition (copied from a friend. There's no copy protection on it, so you can install it with the real cd's and play it without them, hence it's perfect for LAN)I'd gladly play with most of you here if you wanted. Why not play a big game sometime?
Vanguard3000 Posted June 16, 2003 Posted June 16, 2003 I'd love to, but it probably would lag too much. The only game that I don't have much trouble with in MP is Jedi Knight (as in Dark Forces 2).
Dunenewt Posted June 16, 2003 Posted June 16, 2003 runes???Don't you mean relics?Unreal Tournament 2003 is far better i think and i can't wait until the add-on (Unreal Tournament 2004) It will contain loads of vehilces both ground and air and it will be possible to have Descent style action.
Acriku Posted June 16, 2003 Posted June 16, 2003 Ex, I have a 4 mb g-card - and I can play it on medium. ::)
exatreide Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 cool ;)i should be able to then....so send me some cash to buy it..
Vanguard3000 Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 Yes, Relics. I was thinking of the Rune add-on for Quake, which is pretty much the same idea.I thought the weapons in UT2K3 were extremely boring/unimaginative. Why the hell did they mess with the rockey launcher? Same goes for the Phobos Base. They messed that up, too. It's still a decent level, but it would be so much better if they remade it exactly like the one in UT.

There is somewhat different things to do in both, so I usually play the game that fit my wishes every time.
Caid Ivik Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 Relic of Vengeance is rather unbalanced. Not saying using of it disrupts statistics...
Ice_Cube Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 Ex, I have a 4 mb g-card - and I can play it on medium. ::)wow, I thought they were extinct. I would like to play a big deathmatch and frag your assess, but I fear it might lag on my 56K. Sigh....
Caid Ivik Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 UT doesn't lag on 56k...OK, until you don't play maps like Rocket Command with 32 players, of course.
Dunenewt Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 Heres a site me and my friend set up recentlyIts mostly just a forum at the moment however:http://www.justunreal.com

Wasn't it you who a couple months back was ranting about how games with no story line are so terrible...Anyway yes I have play unrea tournament, but more recently I have been quite involved in unreal tournament 2003 which has absolutely SICK graphics and the weapons are mostly the same although they have modified and balanced somewhat. Plus the movement is so much versatile since you can dodge off walls and do sweet jump combos and stuff. It is the funnest fps I've ever played hands down. If your system can handle it (it should realistically be at least 1.4ghz 256mb ram and a 64mb graphics card for it to be playable) i recommend you somehow *acquire* a copy :) and I'll show you how to *really* kick some ass :D
Razorox Posted June 30, 2003 Posted June 30, 2003 Yes, Relics. It's still a decent level, but it would be so much better if they remade it exactly like the one in UT.They messed with the weapons because they were so unbalanced in ut man! The rocket launcher was very luck based in ut (load up 5 rockets - let them go and watch as they completely obliterate an area of 1km... ok maybe not quite THAT extreme, but it was still a "spammers" weapons) Other weapons which required little skill and mostly luck were the ripper where you could just hold down the trigger and watch blades fly wildly through hallways and decapitate random people that you didnt even know were there. This gun has been completely done away with in ut2k3. And the rocket launcher has been tuned to perfection. You can now load a maximum of 3 rockets, but the projectile speed has been increased and you can choose if you want to have them spread and cover a larger area or you can "spiral" them and focus them on one specific point for extra damage. Also the sniper rifle in ut2k3 was "unimaginative" as you described. It was just a standard run-of-the-mill sniper rifle! The new one in ut2k3 fires a bolt of lightning whcih instantly ignites any victims head you might hit into a flaming inferno...oh and the head will also gib ;D. The skins (or character models) are also WAY cooler in ut2k3, the first time i saw them, i almost started drooling over some of those chics! And the mean looking juggernaut dudes are cool as well as the warmachine commandos. Anyway, if anybody wants a lesson in Unreal Tournament 2003 feel free to post here or contact me, and I'll be glad to take you to school ;)
