if anyone recommends DAP, run like Hell! DAP is engrained with tons of evil spyware that will mess you up if you install it.

I too need a good Download Manager. One that is spyware free, yet still fast as lightning. I found a couple without spyware, but they're all wayyyyyyyyyyy too slow.

I downloaded Go!zilla, but has a lot of problems. The two archives that I downloaded with Gozilla, which are "*.exe", don`t work. >:(

I want a program that don`t have spyware, don`t have other program (like the f***ing Bonzi buddy or Gator) and don`t start with windows (i deselected that 0ption in Gozilla, but it still starting with Win).

well, i'd recommend Flashget. It enables you to stop, and resume downloads. And apart from that, it is GREAT for broadband connections, as it can split the file into multiple downloads. hard to explain. But where it comes down to is that it will get the max out of your download connection.

i just downloaded flashget and i notice that it says there are two install options: "adware" and "shareware"

yet it makes no explanation of what "adware" means exactly and whether or not it is spyware. since it doesn't even bother to make the distinction between "adware" and "spyware" and provide a detailed explanation of what they think "adware" means exactly, every flashget file is now being deleted from my system.

btw getright and gozilla have spyware, just as bad as DAP

if anyone can recommend a FAST Download Manager with NO spyware at all, I'm still waiting.

Nav: Adware probably just gives yuo ads. It's the ads that install the spyware. ;)

ANyway, Ad-Aware is usually pretty good at cleaning up cybercrap ike that. Getright still works with the spyware removed.

If you use a program like ad-aware to get rid of the bad stuff after you install, one of three things can happen:

1) Ads and spyware never come back and the program works

2) Ads and spyware return every time you start the program

3) The program won't work without the ads & spyware installed

Now you just have to figure out which download manager will give you #1 :) I experienced this dilemma with some gnutella programs. Grokster was 1, morpheus was 2, Bearshare was a 3.

I was the very first guy on this board to have the generosity and goodwill to let you guys know about Ad-Aware. I know all about Ad-Aware and have probably had it for years longer than most of you.

With DAP, Ad-Aware didn't even remove all the Spyware due to some legalistic-type issues about whether or not certain things were Spyware, so I had to download a seperate utility off the site of the guys who make Ad-Aware just to remove all spyware from DAP (which thankfully, they were nice enough to make).

But the point is, Ad-Aware is not infallible, and on occasion they may not be able to classify what is spyware as spyware if the spyware-makers exploit certain legal loopholes. I take the opinion that knowingly-installing any kind of spyware is insane despite that fact that everyone in the Universe should always have an up-to-date Ad-Aware on his system and as you can see from my other thread, Ad-Aware gets the Nav Seal of Excellence.

I want a Download Manager that is fast like DAP and doesn't take up almost 100% of my bandwidth, but with no spyware at all. Is there such a thing? Maybe there is not, and that's why I haven't seen anyone recommend one so far.

hmm well you see crazy referencing me with what he said. so despite not being the first to mention it by name on this board, i was still the first to mention it to the Emperor Community

his line "nav,it could be true that its spysoftware" is based on me having told him all about Ad-Aware via IMS long before he made that post to which you replied about Ad-Aware (as I did for many other members of the Emperor Community too) ;D

well, in flashget, you are to decide how much bandwith you want to spent on the download. I usually use 100%, but you can also make that lower, just define how many downloads you want at the same time. (I do standard.. 5 downloads of the same file at the same time, they just start at a different point) however, you can also set this to 1, so it will be like in Getright and DAP

I don't see what problems you have with DAP? I am using it right now and it is great. YOu can resume downloads like other download managers and the only adverts I get is a little banner at the top saying buy DAP premium. You can't blame them for advertising their own products.

Okay Nav, your medal is in the mail. ::)

Anyway, Getright works fine after removing the spyware, and I've had no adverse effects from it. Kazaa was the only thing that wouldn't work for me after the spyware was removed, and I just got Kazaa Lite for that.
