Alright lots of you guys have your own forum. What my question is , is how can I get members to join. Should I put a link in chat rooms or what. I want to get a good community going. I had a forum before but it failed because of lack of members. I want this one to be different. Any of you vetran board owners have any ideas?

(i am technically not advertizing for my forum in this thread because i have posted no link and i have not said "Come to my forum" that is against forum rules. I just wanted some ideas to get mine started.)

Placing meta tags in the head section of your forum template, you know...

<html>

<head>

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1" />

<meta content="PHP, MySQL, bulletin, board, free, open, source, ,strategy, emperor, emperor battle for dune, forum, discussion, emperor screenshots, yabb, yet, another, SE" name="keywords" />

BOLD = put some keywords in here.

Just advertise it in your sig or maybe you could play online games and advertise to other players :)

Well that's better english.

I think you should just put it in your signature.......that is enough already,depending on the members of the forum that you have that account in though......what I am trying to mean is that if you have a Newcastle United forum and post it in a signature in a Manchester United forum.......surely noone will bother to even enter it ;)

Just use the method i explained to you and ignore these spammanders, meta tags are the best, they submit your site to every search engine.

Those paid search engine submittors are all companies trying to rob you from your money, just like the internet hosting bussiness, some people have a reliable service, some people rob you of your money, a search engine lists a site by popularity and content (by using keywords, meta tags)

Well, I have experienced it, and just have to say the results...

Don't start your site with a forum. Don't depend on your forum.

It's your main site and it's content/info that should gather people in the first place, and then, there might be a forum for them to discuss it in.

Cant you put meta tags in your web page? then notify search engines about your site or something? Thats what my webpage host says(text) you can do to get traffic.
