Emperor Harkonnen
strange that Paul did not defeat Feyd-Rautha more easily, don't you think?
ilexatrei
Well Paul was small and scrawny in comparison to Feyd's massive size as teh book suggests. And he didn't appear to be using any kind of weirding way.
Emperor Harkonnen
but he did defeat fremen warriors in knife combat. then he should easily take out a harkonnen
nampigai
Feyd-Rautha wasn't just any Harkonnen soldier, he must have been well trained.
Vanguard3000
Feyd was a gladiator. Sure, it was a hobby, not rather than something forced upon him, but he took it seriously. Gladiators are often much more able than common soldiers.
nemafakei
Feyd was brought up as the champion of one of the most opulent and martial Houses Major. He would therefore have been trained to a very high standard, as well as his health being very well cared for.In the desert, Paul would not have such luxury. Moreover, the mental strain of seeing the futute and acting as a mentat with the data would have affected him physically as well.Quite apart from the fact that in a one on one fight, you wish to take as few chances as possible - especially given the high level of agility involved - attacking will leave you open... Acriku
He didn't want to use the Bene Gesserit voice on Feyd, so it took longer than expected.
Egeides
Also, remember that Feyd isn't a low-class DNA type, he's one of the possibilities to become a wkisatz haderach! That's why the emperor's right arm refused to combat Paul, because he believed the two should combat each other so that the best one survive. The fremen warrior wasn't a kwisatz haderach... So Feyd is like one of the worst adversaries Paul could get in the universe. Clash of DNA-titans.
Emperor Harkonnen
that thought acctually crossed my mind too. so the dna matters in the combat
The_Sadukar
that thought acctually crossed my mind too. so the dna matters in the combatin dune it does.
Dunenewt
Also Paul had Thufir's, Dunecan's, Gurney's and Fremen training which was far superior to anything Feyd would have learn't
quoudam72
Feyd's arragance was a factor he knew he would defeat Paul as in contrast Paul understood that he could lose to Feyd by his many possible visions of the future. Paul simply out thought Feyd in their combat by knowing the possible out come(s) of their meeting.
Davidu
Yeah.. a very big fight. Both were very well trained.
quoudam72
I think Paul was better trained than Feyd.
Emperor Harkonnen
he probably was since he won
quoudam72
I base my opinion on more than just Paul winning the fight that he was better trained. Feyd was not as well trained as Paul because Feyd lacked the self-discipline that Paul had recieved from his mentors (IMO).
Mihail
Didn't Paul use a dart in the end when Feyd was about to kill him?If so,then I believe that Feyd is actually batter than Paul. But,thats MO.
nemafakei
No. Feyd had a needle in his belt, with which he intended to stop Paul's muscles to kill him with his knife.
Mihail
But then how did Paul win ??? ??? ??? ??? ???
Vanguard3000
As Nema said, Feyd had the poisoned slip-tip. Paul had a similar ability, though. (DUNE spoiler)[hide]Paul could have used a voice command - "Uroshnor" - to activate a subconscious command in Feyd's mind (placed there by Thufir, I believe), which would immobilize him. Paul, however, never used this ability.[/hide]
Mihail
Its ok,I've read Dune.
quoudam72
Paul could have used that advantage (that Vanguard3000 mentioned) but chose not to instead he beat Feyd by using his own treachery against him. Mano a la mano.
Colonel_Worf
Paul strung that fight out. Feyd was no gladiator. All his opponents were drugged idiots.
Davidu
Not that Atreides soldier that struck fear into him when Fenring visited Harko city.
nemafakei
The command was placed there by Lady Margot Fenring, I believe, on her visit to Giedi Prime to approve of Feyd's titling as na-Baron.Paul actually won, however, by twisting himself away from the slip-tip, and then killing Feyd, who was close enough to be vulnerable.
