Religion Dj, or a cult? The way I see it, Jesus sparked a cult, and over time it grew into a religion. So, if anybody creates a cult and mindwashes most of the people into believing it, that person could be a true messiah! *Takes out the Cult For Dummies...*

Alright, Acriku, so how exactly can anyone make a major world religion pop out of thin air? ::) It seems that you're suggesting that starting small is bad, so I'm curious how you intend to conjure a few million instant followers.

The people made the religion, not Jesus. Jesus was a Jew till the day he died. Or am I misunderstood?

It all depends on how you define the difference between a Christian and a Jew.

It's called rational thinking. People unknown in the world try to explain these surroundings using supernatural (not always) means, and it becomes a religion.

A reasonable scenario. However, there is no proof to support it. At least not in the case of the present-day great world religions.

I am just pointing out how it looks from an outside perspective.

That is why I gave multiple scenarios, and put them up for discussion.

Not exactly. Cultists make first some rituals and then form a philosophy. Not with Jesus. Instead of the bread-wine sacrifice, which he shown as a symbol of his death on next day, he hasn't made any of such action. He was still preaching. I don't think any human will be able to brainwash about 10 thousand people in a such short time, with only purpose let they are good to themselves! Here fails atheistic logic. If he would enrage the first christians to make an uprising and to make himself a king, then it wouldn't be so sure. But sorry, I can say he had never disused them for his own earthly pleasure.

Religion is general is a bad thing. Everwere in the Bible it talks about religion being bad but one were is talks about a pure religion. They come about from people seeking power and mans attempt to reach God. Thus false reilgions and false gods.

christ taught that after his death to go and make disciples of all people. He commanded them to preach his name to all. So he did start his "religion".

You are right to a point quandam. While he was alive, he taught of the coming messiah of the jews and it's laws, but stated that he was that messiah, and that after he died a new covenant would be fulfilled. He was emanuel. God with us. He brought in a new covenant to jewish believers and told them to believe him, the new covenant.

Have u guys ever thought that we don't need religions in our life? Have u ever thought that every single one of us individuals has our own individual,un-named religion?

Think about it

We all have our own morals, beliefs, ideals etc... our own interpretation of the world, people ourselves etc...

so wouldn't that be enough to say, " I dont need a religion because i already have my own religion deep inside of me. Everything i stand for is my religion. God gives you rules, well fuck his rules, howabout my own rules. Yeeeaah, i can live a life where i help others and enjoy myself, still making wise decisions as a i go along~ and i dont need God or any other religion to help me do that!Of coarse you can still believe in Jesus Christ, but you dont need to be a christian. Whats with these labels? I dont believe in any god, yet i am not an atheist. I AM *ME*, and whatever i believe is not part of my religion, ITS PART OF ME."

I know that makes all too much sense to me, I just hope im not the only one.

This is my original post:

Jesus did practice Judism and not Christianity. Christianity did not happen until after his death

@TMA-1

I do not understand your point at what point am I wrong about what I stated? There is no disagreement with my statement and what you stated. The only difference is that you included the details that I chose not to include. I said the same thing you said just with less words.

Caid, a cult is nothing more than a religion seen majorally as extremely false - and the majority of jews and other people saw that Jesus being a messiah was extremely false.

I do read what I say, otherwise I wouldn't say it.

The bible can say they were homosexual for all I care, the majority of the Jewish community did not believe Jesus was the messiah, so the very idea that he is the messiah was by the majority seen as extremely false - the very definition of a cult. It isn't hard to deceive a lot of people. A lot of people believe John Edwards, and he does it easy and it's pretty funny that they believe him. He does miracles, he talks to the dead! Haha.

Acriku, if one cult was able to become a world's largest religion in 300 years, then there had to be something on it ;)

We call this secular hedonistic unresponsible anarchy. Look at Hitler - he made his own rules, own values, own morale. He was just *HIM*. And what it had brought? I follow what I've found best way. No need to experiment.

Because a roman emperor become a christian, making christianity the official religion throughout the entire empire (west and east, they weren't split up yet)

Constatine (or something like that) supposedly turned Christian, but it's pretty much a fact that he only did it for political motives.

Btw, if anyone cares, the first Christian nation in the world was Cyprus :)

So you're saying that Roman people never were christians?

Constantinus has changed the thousand-year old religion of the whole empire. After victorious battle against Parths (I think), where he used christian crucifix as his symbol. Why he did it, just legends say. Anyway, he officialy converted on his deathbed. What is most interesting is fact, that next emperor Iulianus was called Apostata (heretic), because he wanted to bring roman polytheism back.

But still I can't say there were any christian nations. Christianity was one of the first multinational religions, I can say first (and also most influental) in our culture.

And he failed and the empire's official religion was christianity.

Christianity had spread quickly because the romans were converted.

He failed, altough he was an emperor. That is the point.

You just back me up :D

Of course I've backed it. Christianity was so good idea, that whole empire quickly agreed with their conversion. Even barbarians in starting medieval times after fall of Rome to hands of Odoaker felt authority of Church's curses for their brutality and soon converted from lightning worshipping to the christianity too.

Iulianus, the next emperor was against christianity, showing that not everyone agreed.

The reason why christianity is believed by many was because a large empire/civilisation (in this case the roman empire) was converted.
