Nyarlathotep Posted March 4, 2002 Author Posted March 4, 2002 Ken, you state that the problem is with your disk drive. I asume you mean your cd drive. It opens while playing and afterwards, you're not able to play again ? If so, is it just with EBFD or with other games also ? How many cd drives do you have in your computer ?If you have trouble explaining it in English, please explain in Dutch :)"Doc" Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted March 4, 2002 Author Posted March 4, 2002 elite, try to run the EASy program. When done, the output will be saved on your desktop. All you need to do is to copy the output in a post here :)If you're still having problems, let me know.."Doc" Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted March 4, 2002 Author Posted March 4, 2002 tkurk, it's going to be hard to fix your prohblem, as I lack in XP experience. However, first make sure you've also updated your Intel chipset drivers. I now it sounds silly, but it has solvd a lot of compatibility issues with a friend comp.Try running your desktop settings to a lower resolution and with 256 colors.Hope it helps, if not, let me know.. I'll be sure to try and help you.."Doc" Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted March 4, 2002 Author Posted March 4, 2002 "nyarlothep i always have this question about you.how in the world did you get that name.NYARLOTHEP.hmm...maybe the name of your pet dog or something "I came across it somewhere while reading.."Nyarlathotep" is the name of the God of a thousand different incarnations. I didn't see the name before and found it "original" :)"Doc" Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted March 4, 2002 Author Posted March 4, 2002 Triple, have you tried the -altvid option behind the games shortcut ? If not, please try and let me know.."Doc" Nyar...
Guest Triple Posted March 5, 2002 Posted March 5, 2002 I got the game to play! I switched the shadowing to off and now it plays flawlessly! I am so happy! :)
tkurk Posted March 5, 2002 Posted March 5, 2002 Nyar,I will try those things and get back to you here in the near future.Thanx
number6 Posted March 5, 2002 Posted March 5, 2002 Nyar, I was reading your thread today (first time in over a month) and I was following Triple's problem. Does this part from his Easy report seem weird to you?:"Description : NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400Manufacturer : NVIDIAVideo Memory : 1 MBMain Driver : nvdisp.drvVersion : 4.13.01.2750Provider : NVIDIASecondary display deviceDescription : SiS 530Manufacturer : SiSVideo Memory : 64 MB"That information does not seem right to me. I think the Geforce MX should have 64MB and the onboard SIS should be at 1MB.What's up with that?
Guest Triple Posted March 5, 2002 Posted March 5, 2002 I would like to know about this as well. Thanks for actually pointing that out as to I didn't notice it until you posted this Number6 :)-Triple
Nyarlathotep Posted March 6, 2002 Author Posted March 6, 2002 Triple, have fun and enjoy !!Number6, good to see you :)My answer to your question is that I do not have a water proof answer. I also do not believe the SiS has 1mb video memory. I think the system notices the onboard videocard first, therefore mixing up the memory. It might be due to the EASy program itself.. as you know, it also screws up the Windows 2000/NT/XP outputs.. In those outputs it states "DirectX 7", while they are running 8.1.."Doc" Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted March 6, 2002 Author Posted March 6, 2002 lotonix, is it a lockup issue you have or something else ? Please state your exact problem. In the meantime, try ypdating your videocard drivers to 27.xx.Also, make sure you update your VIA chipset !!If the above doesn't help, please have a look at page 31, you'll find a summary there, or try the following page:www.xs4all.nl/~saschoLet me know how it goes !"Doc" Nyar...
tkurk Posted March 6, 2002 Posted March 6, 2002 Nyar,I tried to update my chipset's driver from Intel's site but it says that no download is available, only that the updated driver is on the XP cd. I have the 440 chipset with MMX.I tried running in various color and resolutions and that did nothing.I get the "unable to load 3D device" error when I try and start it up.Any more ideas I can try??tkurk

Nyarlathotep Posted March 7, 2002 Author Posted March 7, 2002 tkurk, "unable to create 3D device" has to do with incompatibility of directx with one of your drivres (soundcard or videocard). Please try the option -s behibd the games shortcut. If it doesn't help, try to uninstall the game (completely, meaning deleting any folders left after uninstall and alos in registry if needed). Then try to reinstall.."Doc" Nyar...
number6 Posted March 8, 2002 Posted March 8, 2002 Good answer to my question Nyar. I did not know that the Easy report messed stuff like that up. Have you been playing Renegade? The game got a bad review in PCGamer. If you get a chance email me and let me know what you think of Renegade.
Guest archieb Posted March 8, 2002 Posted March 8, 2002 Hi Nyar!!!I've tried all the sugestions to no avail. Now my dos and win both report bad H/D numbers as I boot up for normal win98se. So I guess whats left is to reinstall 98se or upgrade to 2000. Any suggestions? archieb
areyouforit Posted March 8, 2002 Posted March 8, 2002 it still amazes me the amount of replies there are when i come and visit this topic.its so large i can't find my question :Di have an question i'm not an expert but...could i uninstall the program of my cd-drive? and then install it again?
Nyarlathotep Posted March 9, 2002 Author Posted March 9, 2002 Ken, about the replies.. what do you think I need to do when someone comes back for their problem :DAbout your cd-drive.. I don't think you have to uninstall the drivers, unless it's a cd rewritable or DVD player. In that case you could just reinstall the drivers. If you have another cd in your system, did you try to play/install the game on that one ?"Doc" Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted March 9, 2002 Author Posted March 9, 2002 archieb, if you're up to it, you could reinstall your OS. To be honest, I always recommend doing that, once a half a year/year, depending on how much stuff you install on your computer.Best thing to do when you buy a comp, is to have partitions on your drive. "C" being the OS drive and any other partition for other programs. That way, when you reinstall your OS and programs, you will not lose any saved information (like files made in Office, saved games, ect, ect)..Btw number6, I'll mail you in a minute :)"Doc" Nyar...
